Directed by Kathy Graham and produced by the MHS Theatre Department, “The Little Prince” play took place in Moline High School at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th through January 14th. After attending the previous play, I was very excited to view this winter play, though my expectations were set a bit too high.
For starters, the plot of the play is very simplistic. While it did implement a great theme, “What is important is invisible to the eye,” I personally did not find the storyline enthusing, nor comprehensive, noting that I had not read the book beforehand. The story involves a man who loses his imagination under the influence of “misunderstanding” parents, as he is no longer passionate in pursuing his career an artist and becomes a pilot. As his plane breaks down, the aviator falls into a desert and meets a little prince who has come from a small planet. The Little Prince helps instill the importance of individualism in the man by asking him to draw and telling him about his journey. In his journey, the prince explains his love for a flower, and how he thought that she was the rarest flower. However, he later finds out that she was just a common rose. After leaving the rose and taming a fox, the prince realizes that it is what is inside a person that makes them special and different. Towards the end of the play, the aviator is inspired by the child, as he returns back to his home and paints a picture of the desert landscape.
While the plot of the play was exceptional, it was the acting that made the story come to life and seem significant. Without the presentation of humor and sentiment, it would have been very
