Research has shown that MCT improves vocal quality immediately after treatment and in the short- term, with individuals with MTD. Improvements in vocal quality include: jitter, shimmer, signal to noise ratio, and reduced intensity (Mathieson et al., 2009; Reimann et al., 2016; Roy & Leeper, 1993; Roy et al., 1997; Van Lierde et al., 2004; Van Lierde et al., 2008). Reimann and colleagues (2016), did conclude that MCT does increase roughness in vocal quality due to muscle rebalance in the laryngeal area after MCT; however, participants did demonstrate a softer voice which is a goal of MCT. Another benefit from this treatment approach is that it is one of the most direct treatment approach to improve individuals’ voices, which increases client motivation (Van Houtee et al., 2009).
