Personal Reflection: Strengths And Weaknesses

Improved Essays
Within the MAP works assessment that was introduced to us in class, I learned that I had certain strengths and weaknesses involved with my success in the college atmosphere. Within the “Earning the Grades I Want Category” I had some good things and some bad. My strengths in this category was that I had basic academic behaviors and I understand the importance of class attendance. A weakness I had in this category was my time management skills. It stated that I had fair time management skills, but in order to achieve the grades I wanted I would have to improve them. I need to keep academics on the top of my priority list, which I think that after this semester I did a good job organizing my time management skills. Another weakness I …show more content…
I am generous and quick to smile. I like to put myself in positive situations. Some call my lighthearted, others are jealous of my positive attitude. People want to be around me and my enthusiam is contagious. I always seek out a way to lighten people’s spirits. Somehow I seem to make the worst things seem exciting. People try to drag me down due to my positivity, but rarely I allow it to distract me. Somehow I never lose sense on how no matter what the setbacks, there always a reason to stay positive. In the affirming and developing category it states that I stimulate people to be more productive and hopeful. I get people excited about certain things that usually they don’t get excited for. I tend to help people see the “silver lining” in things. My attitude tends to motivate people, even though some like to criticize me for my optimism. People tend to rely on me to brighten up their days. This category also states that I know how to throw a nice party, which I can’t argue about there. In general academic life it states that I help make learning more fun and enjoyable. I like to give out praise to my fellow classmates and help them relax as well as contribute to exciting class discussions. To help me with my study techiniques I could invite people who are as positive as I am, encourage others, think of clever/fun ways to study, and throw “study parties” to lighten up the mood. To building strong relationships I can express my positive attitude about life to others, transfer my energy into everything that I do, and choose friends that are as upbeat as me. For Class Selection I can: Take classes I find exciting and that interest me, select professors that have a positive approach, and investigate what others have stated about the course. For extra curricular activities I can: involve myself in team sports that involve cheering others on and pick out activities that seem like they could be fun.

As an incoming freshman in August of 2015 taking Rhetoric 105, I not only learned how to take apart papers, summarize, paraphrase, analyze and construct passages, but overall to be a great thinker. There are many ways that a person can tell you that works to become a better thinker, but it starts within you. While writing papers this fall semester, I learned that my writing became better when I a. understood what was being asked of me via the criteria, b. allowed myself to make mistakes in order to understand what I was and wasn 't doing correctly, c. I started to question myself, not in a way of was the work too hard, but in the sense of what the assignment and the thesis I am creating is asking. At this stage, you have to be completely real…

I am involved in many honors societies and clubs that prioritize social involvement and enthusiasm to the field it focuses on such as National Honors Society, Drama Club/ Thespian Honors Society, National Dance Honors Society and Tri M Music Honors Society. Along with academics, I also spend my time participating in co-curricular activities. These activities include sports- basketball, volleyball, and softball- and other school clubs -forensics, FFA, and FBLA. I partake in these activities for the learning experience, but also to be part of more and more teams. I believe working with others to accomplish a goal helps construct many valuable life skills such as communication, patience, and being organized. I have very few amounts of spare time, but if I ever get the chance to use that time for helping others, I am more than glad to give it up.…

The most effective professional session that I attended was ten hour multiday training session on Kagan Cooperative Learning Strategies. These sessions were led by two Kagan coaches who presented their material to classroom teachers, specials teachers, and related service providers. This session was effective because the session leader provided activities that were engaging for everyone that was in attendance. The session leader also provided modeling of how to use the strategies. She also made sure that activities were specifically related to the different content fields of the teachers in the session.…

When looking back at this whole semester, I would say that there were a few things that I did learn. Some subjects from the book definitely stood out more than others. A few key things that I can take with myself and be easily remembered. I believe that I have learned quite a few things about myself but more on the subject itself and how to handle certain situations. Taking this class I feel helped me to get a better look on how to deal with other people, learning to react to certain situations, and not everything is in your control.…

It has only been three weeks and I have never had a class that has personally affected me as much as this one. This week’s reading, “The Social Construction of Unreality: A Case Study of a Family’s Attribution of Competence to a Severely Retarded Child” by Pollner and McDonald-Wilker, really made me question my entire life and the role that my family has had in my education. I am in my second year at UCLA with a full scholarship for tuition and very minimal loans. Granted I have had some ups and downs with my GPA, I have overall been managing my grades. As a student, you can say I have been quite successful.…

An exercise in class allowed me to understand my own reasoning for helping others as well as what may be my own selfish reasons for seeking this profession. For example, at one point in the exercise, I broke ground into my own self-assessment and found insight that I was partially seeking the profession for money and for my savior complex. I felt that this observation of myself showed that I was overall, functioning normally with both healthy and minimal unhealthy motivations. Another concern that came across my mind is when I have a…

In matching Janet’s posture, language and tone, I reflected back to Janet her external behaviours. When I commented to Janet “and because you know that at the base of it’s not you it’s him” I put into my words her thoughts regarding his behaviour. Janet’s response of “well that’s the thing, I don’t let it affect me anymore…” allowed her to then explore why her reactions to her ex-husband had changed. I found this skill of counselling particularly difficult in this session due to our friendship.…

Self reflection is the mental process that acquires knowledge and understanding through thoughts and experience which helps encourage self awareness. This essay focuses on assessing my objectives and how I have developed my skills from the beginning of this semester until now. At the start of semester A, I wasn’t confident in preparing for the skills sessions and workshops. I wasn 't always able to find the correct answers to the workshop questions set which made it relatively difficult for me to participate in lectures despite finding myself at the library every other day. I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…

In order to do that, I pointed out my weaknesses and I would find solutions to strengthen my weaknesses. One of my weaknesses was my time management.
