M. Scott Peck's Argumentative Essay

In the subject of learning how to fulfill a person's life with happiness M. Scott Peck and Morrie Schwartz had similar beliefs. Despite leading different lives and having different professions these two men still happened to have shared a common thought. M. Scott Peck was born in New York in 1936 and went to college at Harvard University. Throughout his life he wrote many novels. One of his quotes was ¨Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it¨ (M Scott). In this quote he was trying to say that in order to be truly happy a person has to be able to be happy with themselves. Then and only then will that person be able to value what is important in life and know how to wisely spend their time so that they are not wasting any of it. Towards the end of his life he had pancreatic and liver duct cancer as well as Parkinson's disease. Morrie Schwartz was a New Hampshire professor who even when he was dying continued to spend his life teaching others every way he could. In Morrie Schwartz's quote he said ¨Once you learn how to die...¨ (Albom 82) and M. Scott Peck´s quote said ¨Until you value your time...¨ (M Scott). These were two different aphorisms by two different people yet this part of both aphorisms means the same thing. Learning to die is just like learning how to value time in each instance nothing is taken for granted because it is known that everything will one day end. Then in the second part they both said what will happen once a person knows how to die or knows how to value their time, they will ¨...learn how to live¨ (Albom 82).
