Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable is a superhero film, filled with numerous amounts of supernatural and fatal situations and a couple of strange and powered characters who are active or the conductors of those devastating situations. There is no question that one of those characters, which is David Dunn, is a superhero. He is an unbreakable man that isn’t affected by just about anything, and that can definitely be considered a superpower. Before we get into David Dunn’s specific powers, let’s analyze the term “superpower.” A superpower is a superhuman and supernatural ability that a character can adapt or inherit. Elijah is the man who helps me prove my case, even if it is through terrorizing the world with his genius intellect and bomb skills. Elijah was on a hunt to find his heroic counterpart which turned out to be David, the unbreakable man. Elijah was born extremely fragile with broken arms and legs, in which David is immune to just about anything. However, there is no disease or condition that grants someone immunity to everything, healing factors, super strength, and the ability to sense whether a person committed evildoings or not. That’s something you only see in superheroes, such as Wolverine or Spider-man or whoever you read about in the comics. Shyamalan isn’t straightforward with revealing Dunn’s powers, but he definitely hints at him having superpowers indirectly, not including the fact that he actually has superpowers. For instance, our antagonist, Elijah Price, also known as Mr. Glass, owns a comic book shop. So, we have a peculiar man who has superhuman strength, unbreakable flesh and immunity to just about everything, plus, an extremely intelligent evil mastermind who is responsible for many terrorist attacks just to find the man who completely contrasts him. How could you not call this a superhero movie?
