One of Drops of Ink’s core values is to “give a voice to the voiceless.” Stories that exemplify this value include those written on homelessness (which I worked on), sexual assault, bullying, and teenage drinking and drugs. Last year, our publication was nominated for a major national award (the NSPA Pacemaker), and two of my photographs received recognition from a local journalism organization.
We have also recently expanded the scope of our work. Last year, Drops of Ink moderated a discussion with the mayoral candidates of our town prior to an election. We are currently planning a panel discussion regarding gun control and school safety in light of the Parkland, Florida, shooting.
