A good investigator must always proceed with caution when conducting an investigation involving a supposed natural death. A failure to notice minute details or to approach an investigation objectively can result in a murder being overlooked. Essentially, the natural death scene that was described certainly requires further investigation. The victim is lying face down and lividity has formed on their back. Moreover, when considering the manner in which the lividity process works, such circumstances are unusual. Orthmann and Hess (2013) “If a body is on its back, lividity appears in the lower portion of the back and legs. If facedown, it appears in the on the face, chest, stomach and legs” (p. 275).
