Lyall A Hero's Journey Analysis

Lyall is split between two vastly different worlds, at times it is a struggle for him. There is the life he knew, growing up in Northern Wales. His father fighting for Britain in the war, his mother and older sister struggling to keep his younger siblings fed, happy and clothed. Lyall can’t help feeling pangs of guilt, he is the only one in his family with any magic, he is the only one able to escape the harsh realities they have to live. The real guilt he feels is from his happiness and relief at being free from their world. The Wizarding world is an adventure, a place for him to discover his true self.

Lyall is wild. Not in the bad boy rock star sense. He isn’t addicted to drugs, or alcohol, or women. Not that he would say no when they are offered. After all, adventure is everywhere. To Lyall, everything is exciting, especially when it is new. He’s wild like a jungle, a mountain, a river. Wild like nature, untamed, unstoppable, undefinable. Always changing. He has a thirst for adventure that can never quite be quenched, when he’s not living in the moment he is living for the next moment. He constantly craves more, something bigger. He wears his blonde hair long and messy. He simply doesn’t have the time to keep it neat and short as is the expected fashion. He wears rings on his fingers and paints his toenails bright colours.
