The author that I agree with most are Luttrell and Sommervile. As is stressed at the end of the video, if Robert written an advanced directive then the entire situation would have been avoided. I value the principle of autonomy highly - one should be able to make decisions for themselves and then stick them through if forced to do so. Robert could have dictated what he would want done in certain situations, and his rationale for these answers would come from a lifetime of understanding his own reactions to situations. He could also change these directives if his stances also changed. He could have also decided to appoint either his mother or wife to make the decision for him, he must have done so with reason.
