The agency I am interning at called the Lutheran Social services. I volunteer in their Early Life program. My agency provides preschool to children ages 3 and 4 though Head Start and ACS Child Care services. Head Start is a program that helps low income families with childhood education. Child Care is a daycare or babysitting services that help you watch your child, while your parents are at work. So far, there are ten early life center locations, located in Brooklyn, Manhattan and The Bronx. My agency is located in The Bronx at 80 East 181st between, Walton and Morris Avenue. There are many useful organizations in the area that, also supports families. There is a senior site located right in the building. The senior center is connected to …show more content…
Besides us, residents living around this neighborhood have access to other different Child Care and Head Start programs. For instance, just the other day, a homeless mother with no sort of income came to our site to enroll her daughter in our Head Start program. Sadly, our Head Start program has passed the limit of enrollment so we couldn’t enroll anymore children. So we then started referring her to other Head Start programs around the neighborhood instead of letting her just go. Right across the street from my site, there is P.S 386. The public school starts from preschool to elementary school. When the kids come out of the school there is always a crossing guard there that make’s sure that kids cross the street safely. There are also many different public schools around the area as well. Bronx Community College is only ten minutes away walking distance. I go there sometimes when I don’t feel like going to Brooklyn, since I live in the Bronx. The New York City Board of Education is also ten minutes away from my agency, which allows parents to enroll their children starting from pre-k to high school. As stated in Farina (2017), It also helps parents get involved with volunteer work in their kids’ schools or finding out concerns that they’re child is experiencing. This board of education is in charge of all school districts. I have been there in the past to help a parent change their children’s school due to lack of learning and problem and concerns the mom had about the school. There is a post office five minutes away, which we use very frequently to send out mails. Ladder 33 is located just a few minutes away from us, as well as the 46th prescient which is about 5 minutes away from

The Real Experiment Everyday we see different places, different people, and different situations. It is their factors, similarities, or differences that change different settings. I have recently switched campuses from Flint to Owosso and was surprised by the similarities and differences they both offered. For this experiment, comparing campuses would be a perfect candidate. The norms, deviance, social movements, and social control of the campuses.…

My main reason for applying to the Rutgers University School of Social Work is that it is an accredited university with an excellent reputation as an educational institution and offers a MSW program that is predominantly online. I attended Thomas Edison State University over the past two and a half years and earned my bachelor’s degree online. Once I made the decision to continue my education, I searched for MSW programs that were available online as well; since Rutgers is close to my residence and offers an excellent online master’s degree program, it is well suited for my educational needs. 1a- Personally, I have attended several years of elective one on one and group therapy sessions as a direct result of the 911 tragedy.…

Introduction When I first decided to pursue a degree in social work, my decision was guided by the experience I had volunteering specifically with children. Originally, I believed my purpose within social work would be in the one-to-one interactions because my idea of social work career options was underdeveloped. However, after taking The Social Work Profession, I realize that while a passion for a specific population may guide your interests it does not necessitate a certain job. Specifically, I learned there are three broad practice categories: micro, mezzo, and macro social work from which I can choose.…

    A. This week for the reporting period I didn’t have the opportunity to observe much because of the short week I had in the agency. However, I did get the chance to direct calls from clients to social workers. I also participated in going shopping with one of the social worker aide’s for foster children. There was also an independent living meeting that took place in our office this week but I didn’t get a chance to sit in on it. I think a difficult thing to handle for me would be seeing a child’s home and the abuse they have encountered and the parents do a few stipulations and the judge give them back. I know people can change, but here in the county I live in I see repeat offenders of child neglect and the judge sends them back to the home. I know there are rule and laws but the children are the ones that suffer from the inconsistency. I understand when working in the field of social work I will have to do as my supervisor says and follow the giving directions, but it will be hard at times.…

Throughout this semester we have discussed and practiced various techniques that can be used when working with clients. This semester at Loyola has enhanced my understanding of what it truly means to be a social worker, from the classroom perspective. In my field placement, I do not believe it is directly related to social work, but I was able to use a social worker perspective when interacting with the children in the program. This course was the only course that provided me with hands-on experience of engaging with different types of clients. In my other classes, we did not do case demonstrations instead, we discussed different theories and perspectives about individuals and family systems.…
