Space exploration began to increase more and more, and satellites were thought of to create world peace and stability, but also increased military power. Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. After standing in the middle of her living room, playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons for an hour, I leave her apartment and put on Isaac Stern’s recording of these concertos. Songs are poems set to music. They come in all different varieties, genres and styles but often the message conveyed is similar. In modern music the message or theme usually relates to love or substance abuse. A few decades ago, the messages were comparable, and even though society was quite different then, the themes in music were relatively the same. The first job someone has is often memorable in many ways, they are earning their own money, accepting a new form of responsibility, and they’re usually treated horribly because their position is seen as inferior. In today’s world, people who work jobs that don’t require a degree are looked down upon. It is often ignored that the resources that are needed to obtain the education that is required for a white collar job, are not available to everyone. A certain intelligence that comes of blue collar workers and what they must deal with is also dismissed. An individual that's gritty doesn't let any obstacles or difficulties hold them back from accomplishing a desired goal. When a person has a growth mindset they are very grit because they maintain a long term persistence of effort . On the other hand , people with a growth mindset aren't similar to ones with a fixed mindset. Having a fixed mindset means that when an individual is faced with a problem or difficulty , instead of working at that the issue they would rather give up and never overcome the challenges. While my parents traveled to and from work everyday, there were a couple of songs they may have heard quite often due to their popularity. If they happened to be listening to the radio when I was born, they more than likely heard the number one song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith (“Birthday No #1.”), which won the MTV Movie Award for Best Song from a Movie (“Aerosmith Awards.”). Diane Warren, the songwriter, became nominated for an Oscar for the Best Music from an Original Song, won the ASCAP Award for Most Performed Songs from Motion Pictures, and was even nominated for the Grammy Best Song written Specifically for Motion Picture or for Television (“Diane Warren Awards.”).
