The themes of rebellion, lust, and dichotomy as well as paradox in Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet all stem from natural human nature. Lust, by definition, is a passionate desire for something, usually related to love. However, lust for someone is often considered an animalistic and primitive desire, that often leads to rebellion. Lust causes the characters in Romeo and Juliet to revert between their wanton id and their rational ego. This causes the characters to create paradox.
