Character Literary Essay (´´The Marble Champ´´)
Stop doubting yourself, work hard and make it happen. I think this quote shows something of Lupe´s philosophy. In the story ´´The Marble Champ,´´ by Gary Soto, Lupe, the protagonist, is a shy girl and is not good at sports but is a straight -A- student. The story shows that she is a very hard worker because she sacrifices her own time to practice, tries her best, and she is determined to be good at sports.
The first reason why Lupe is a hard worker is that she sacrifices her time to practice her newfound sport, marbles. For example, ´´ After school the next day she left her homework in her backpack and practiced three hours straight.´´ Another example is that, Lupe was drying the dishes one of the days she had practiced hard, scrubbing them each one until it was as dry as sandpaper, when her mother asked her why her thumb was so swollen. Lupe replied ´´I´m practicing for the Marbles competition.´´ Finally, she practiced so much that she beat a neighbor whose name was Alfonso, and who was known as a really good marbles player. These illustrate that Lupe is a very hard worker. Even though she wants to get good grades and be good in school, she puts that aside to work on her marbles skills, and she really wants to win at a sport for the first time and win at the competition for

To show this, ´´She could not make her body, no matter how much she tried, run as fast as the other girls. She begged her body to move faster.´´ This shows that Lupe is a hard worker because she never gave up in trying to move her body and was decisive to win in something. The next example is, once Lupe found a sport that she could do, which was marbles, she was determined to win at the competition and she never gave up in trying. She practiced with all her heart. This proves that Lupe is a very hard worker by showing that she really wants to be good at

I think that if you're are older than a teenager then you think that kids lives are always easy. I know in my personal experience my mom tells me that my life is a lot easier than hers because I just had to go to school and do chores but she is the one who had to go to work and cook dinner so my life was never going to be as hard as hers. I actually believe differently and I think that actually growing up isn't as easy as some people think and it's important to know this because most older people think differently but you will know that actually, it's true from this. This is exemplified in the book Broken Chain by Gary Soto by Alfonso's self-esteem, judgment from others, and his position in his home and at school or with his friends.…
