It’s accessible to every individual the rich and the poor, the old and the young including all the genders. However, owning a personal vehicle is still a dream to many especially to the developing countries where majority still lives below a dollar a day. Development of vehicles have brought a lot of benefits to the world and equally it has several negative impacts, what I may not be sure about is whether the benefit of the vehicles development outweighs the negative impact or the negative impacts outweighs the benefits, that am yet to find out. Development of automobiles can be traced back in the 17thh and the 18th centuries in china where one Mr. Ferdinand Verbiest who was a member of Jesuit mission in china built the first steam powered vehicle in 1672, this steam powered vehicle was not capable of human transportation and instead it was used as a toy by the Chinese emperor (Wakefield, 1998). A breakthrough was made in 1768 when a steam powered …show more content…
The development of these motor vehicles have done harm to the society however, they have contributed to the economic development of the entire world. To begin with, environmental pollution is the major negative impact the motor vehicles have brought to the entire world. Just from the beginning of the steam powered engines, it was the largest contributor of pollution but further development reduced that level of pollution by developing the petrol powered engine which is the common used engine till date. In 2013, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide from vehicles contributed to more than a half of air pollution that poses several risks to human health. Disposal of old motor vehicle parts is also a major source of soil pollution, sulfur containing fuels such as diesel is one of the major air pollutant, that’s why most of the fuels indicates no sulfur content because of the health risk it poses to the population once its emitted (Harris, 1998). When sulfur dioxide is emitted, it can react with other chemical substances in the atmosphere to form fine particles that exposes the asthmatic and young children to several lung risks. More development should be done
