ATOW Tell a detention story. Last year I got a lunch detention it lasted three days. Lunch detention was loud; everyone was talking about inappropriate things, how they got their lunch detentions, and not doing the work they were supposed to. I couldn’t work on anything that got handed to me and I was stressed the whole time. I feel that meditation would be way better than a detention because it helps the student relax the mind and body muscles.…

Like most elementary school-aged children, when the eleven-thirty bell rang, I would rejoice, for it was lunch time. Reaching into my backpack, grabbing my lunch bag and water bottle, sitting down at my desk, and eating my lunch had become a ritual I was accustomed to. This all changed approximately three fourths of the way through my fifth-grade year, when the absolute worst possible thing that could have happened to me, happened to me, leaving me forever incapable of eating in front of people or in public places. I am Megan. I have experienced a psychologically traumatizing incident at such a young, impressionable age that the truth of this inncident has left a permanent scar on not only my self-image and self-worth, but my lifestyle.…

Every Saturday, I distinctly recall the smell of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. The radio would be playing in the background, masked by the overwhelming chatter occurring throughout the house. So many things happening in such a small space: what I remember most, is the sound of laughter, and the smiles that surrounded me. My grandpa hollering because he cannot hear the television, my mother still drowsy from the sleepless night, My grandmother singing to the radio that was barely audible over the commotion, and me, invariably sat looking at all that surrounded me, enthralled at how lucky I was to have a heart so full.…
