The lumber industry was one of the biggest industries in MN. The way the industry started was like many others, it started with a person. At the time Frederick Weyerhaeuser was a super wealthy man. He had grown up in Germany and had moved to the US when he was 18. When he arrived in the United States he invested his money in a broken down sawmill. This sawmill was the dawn of what we know it as today, the Lumber Industry. During the late 1800s and the early 1900s the lumber industry flourished. There were more than 400 logging companies just in Minnesota. Towns and cities across the country were using the lumber that came from this state! The industry and also found out about the GIGANTIC redwood trees and started chopping them down
