Lukewarm Is No Good Analysis

Improved Essays
In my life, I strive to remember phrases that are compatible with my values. One such collected phrase is a snippet of a Roald Dahl quote that stresses the importance of being an enthusiast in life. The quote concludes, “lukewarm is no good” in reference to the degree by which passions should be approached. This concept has remained with me as a reminder to engage in my true interests.

Similarly, Hamilton’s message, “study what you love” corresponds with the belief that passions should be held in high regard. The slogan is refreshingly candid in that it unequivocally encourages the pursuit of one’s interests. Hamilton’s utilization of this phrase is an indicator that at this college, dreams will be supported and resources to improve upon skills

In Adam Braun’s memoir and life guide “The Promise of a Pencil”, the speaker relates his journey of creating Pencils of Promise and the lessons learned along the way. He employs the rhetorical technique of flashback in a way that is both elucidating and memorable, establishing mood of unwitting self-indulgence in a tone that is both austere and sophomoric. Any college worth its salt has a motto, something to aspire to. At FIU it’s “Hope, Knowledge, Opportunity”. While sounding great in Latin, to me it expresses what a university does, not exactly what it's for.…

Moreover, Goodall toured a medical research laboratory and realized that baby chimps located there were not allowed to interact with each other as they were contained in small boxes. Her encounter with a chimp hiding in the back of a box and rocking back and forth in its cage led her to advocate for labs where chimps could interact and be contained in larger cages if research was necessary. Jane not only noticed the maltreatment of laboratory chimps, she persisted in making her demands for improvement known. Her determination led researchers to comply to her suggestions even if they were not originally in support of the changes (Welty, "300 Days"). Goodall possessed a large array of knowledge regarding chimpanzee behavior from her individual studies, and she…

In the article, the author first suggests that colleges look for passion in students. The author states,”Enroll young people focused on pursuing a genuine passion rather than just those determined to assemble a list of far flung activities”(Kansas City Star). By stating this the author means that, colleges should select students who are excited and love their career choice rather than students who are involved in a plethora of activities, some of which have nothing to do with their major. If colleges started to look at passion rather than activities outside of school, then more students will have the chance to be accepted.…

After reading “On Entering a New Place” I felt the author was trying to convey we expect everything to fall into place and things just don’t work that way at times, “you expect night to come.” And when it doesn’t go the way we want we’re left unknowing of what to do next. I took Barry Lopez’s writing opened my eyes a little bit more, and it helped me realize that life doesn’t go as planned, and that’s okay we just need to go with it. Barry Lopez’s message relates to my initial perception of college because he tells us that “you must come with no intentions of discovery.” When this is said I feel that he tries to bring the understanding that you can’t go in knowing and expecting everything to just happen.…

For years the class of 2015 has been asked, what inspires you, what are your goals, what are your aspirations? Finally, we have come to a crossroads in life and an answer must be provided. My most valued lessons throughout my high school career were not taught in a Chemistry lab or math lecture, but rather in the real world, learning to grow as a person and to open my eyes to the beauty and horrors of what was happening around me. High school provides the perfect outlet to either create a bubble to live within or to broaden your horizons and see beyond the small corner of the world that you have been provided. Sophomore year I was given the opportunity to travel to St. Lucia and instead of pristine beaches, I relished in the beauty and heat…

She held on to the back of my tiny bicycle and said “Keep pedaling, daddy is waiting on the other side”, I looked up and then saw my father opening his arms widely as if he was waiting for me to reach there soon.…
