Luigi Boccherini. Born 1743 in Lucca, Italy, and died 1805 in Madrid, Spain. He lived for 62 years. His body was buried in Pontifical Basilica of St. Michael in Madrid, until 1927 when Mussolini had him dug up and moved his body to the church of St. Francesco in his native place, Lucca, Italy. Luigi’s bloodline still goes on to live in Spain this day. Boccherini’s father sent him at a young age to study in Rome(1757). He later went on to Madrid, and worked for the younger brother of Charles the 2nd(1727-1785). Until one day, the King disapproved of one of Boccherini’s passages in one of Luigi’s trios, and ordered him to change it. Boccherini, angered at the disruption of his art, he doubled the passage, which lead to Boccherini’s immediate displacement. After he was displaced, Boccherini went on to play in France. Most of Boccherini’s art was based towards the Cello, since he played, and excelled at playing the Cello, which his father loved, since he himself was a Cellist, and a double bass player. Luigi composed a large amount of chamber music, including over one hundred string quintets for two violins, viola and two cellos, a dozen guitar quintets, which not all have survived …show more content…
His compositions have been gaining popularity in the late 20th century. The reason he’s been gaining more popularity is for the fact that his String Quintet in E, Op. 11, No. 5 (G275) was in the movie The Ladykillers. Also his String Quintet in C major, Op. 30 No. 6, (G324), was popularized in the film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Two of the members of the Boccherini Quintet also found a complete collection of the first 141 string quintets in Paris and immediately began playing and recording them around the
