Lueau Club Reflection

Decent Essays
Hi everyone!

The Luau club last week looked like so much fun! There were so many people and it seemed so exciting! Victoria and I couldn't go because of the weather and she was feeling really upset that day. I know that our Capernaum and Suffern Young Life will be going to Lake Champion tomorrow! I hope all the staff and students are prepared for tomorrow! I will keep you all in my prayers! Maybe next summer Victoria and I can tag along!

Anyways, some of you may know that I was working on a documentary project last month for school when I was doing an interview with Eryt (Ryan's mom) and Debbie (Noah's mom) during club. This project was "Documentary for Social Change," I interviewed, photographed, filmed and edited this project on the community

Throughout the movie Sankofa it becomes very evident very quickly how prejudice and biased the whites are, even before you witness the whole slavery aspect of the film. Sankofa shows a brutal truth about The Caribbean’s past that many people, especially Caucasians, don’t like to mention or think about. Through my analysis I will look further into how the film and readings from the class coordinate with one another, as well as the whole process of Creolization for the Africans and the Americans. Sankofa shows the Creolization of Africans to the American culture and how they slowly try and adapt to the language, as well as the new culture they have been introduced to. It also shows their adaptation to being slaves rather than indigenous…

I volunteered at Jack Jouett Middle School for the eighth-grade AVID program. In the classes, I helped students go through the AVID tutorial process. I functioned as a guide who coached the students through a Socratic process to understand points of confusion from their core classes, and then through collaborative work to understand the steps needed to clarify their point of confusion. All students in the AVID class apply to be in the program. They must have average to high test scores with a C to B+ grade point average.…

I have been part of the AVID Club for four years and two years for the Pacific Club. I have not been able to volunteer in any after school programs because of my family since they are very strict. Even if my family is strict on me I try to be involved in my high school. I have participated in fundraising money such as selling bags for the both the AVID and Pacific Clubs. Another thing that I started to do this year is participate in selling food at one of the student stores at the high school during lunch time.…

There is a stigma associated with attending Brookdale. It did not make sense to me, and I did not let it stop me. In my senior year of high school, I blatantly told everyone I was going to Brookdale and faced opposition. No one understood. I was in the top ten percent of my class.…

Philly Rec Fest On September 27, 2014 I attended the Philadelphia Rec Fest at the Carousel House Recreation Center. It held activities for people with or without physical limitations including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, rock climbing, and even scuba diving! I volunteered for this event rather than the other 5 events because I wanted to contribute to helping the people in our city of Philadelphia. It was amazing to see how many people came out to not only support the event, but also to participate.…

In this book there are many parts where it makes you wonder about why this happened or why did someone do something. First I will be listing three different I wonder sentences. I wonder why Kludd wasn’t really helped or talked to when he was a kid. My evidence for the question is that the author shows how from chapter 1 to chapter 5 get’s his parent’s help, but Kludd only gets to watch.…

I interviewed Destiney Bradshaw, who is an athlete in the Union Soccer Organization. She joined the program because of her passion to play soccer and once she had joined she fell in love with the program. In the eighth grade, Coach Elliott taught half time at the Union Eighth Grade Center and the other half at the Union High School. He would always stop Destiney in the halls to talk to her about how she should join the program. This community is unique because Elliot would have heart to hearts with every single girl in the program.…

I meet Rhonda in September 2016, in the fall semester for Clackamas Community College at the class of Criminology. Ever since her character toward me is a person that care, helpful and always concern about my personal life and the homework we have at school. For the next year we have the same classes and often sit together and exchange family experiences like mines and hers, and from this I can say she is a woman that cares about her kids wellbeing, always telling me stories in how she helps her daughter Ashley to get a job, help her with her grandbabies Taylor and Tinley so she can go to work. Always going out her way to help her. How she talks highly about his son Luke and how he works hard to get a new car, And from this, I can feel Luke…

    Wolters Reflection

I have mixed feelings on how to react to Wolters’ writing. Wolters takes what may seem like something that all reformational Christians should already know and reinforces this classical worldview in a useful way. The musings of Wolters have been the integral backbone of my entire educational experience over my years at Dordt. However, I have never been formally introduced to these concepts before starting college. This may be obvious to anyone who knows me, but up until a couple of years ago, I had never heard of the terms, “reformational,” “worldview,” “structure and direction,” or even “creation, fall, redemption.…

Suzan Ramirez Skid Row Reflection In discussing skid row I felt like I was looking at things from two different perspectives. Last year I became Vice President of Student Organization of Latinos (S.O.L). Before S.O.L the only club I had been a part of was Heath Occupation Students of America (H.O.S.A) a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO). Becoming Vice President of S.O.L was something novel to me, I had no experience being a co-leader of any club but I wanted to try something new and was willing to give it my all. I knew it was going to be a challenge because S.O.L was only being established at our school and it was the club’s first year.…

The Dream of the Rood The Dream of the Rood is an Old English, allegorical retelling of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ from a different point of view. Many seem to think this poem is only told from the point of view of the cross that Jesus was crucified on, but an additional interpretation is that this story is told seemingly through the point of view of a normal man, but in all actuality it is the retelling of the vision that Jesus had before he was arrested and his acceptance of his duty to be sacrificed for the forgiveness of sinners. There are three sections of The Dream of the Rood.…

    The Lorax Reflection

Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is an animated motion picture; since it’s an animated motion picture, it is already assumed that the intended audience is for the little kids. But this movie is not only for the children but it is for everyone. This movie for me is a reminder to take good care of the planet that we live in, that we who lives here should not take it for granted. We should be responsible in this place that we call home because even if NASA discovers livable planets, it will never come close to our home, Earth. It is all we really have Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax tells the story about a young boy, named Ted, who searches for the one thing that will help him win the heart of a young woman, Audrey.…
