Ludicrous Vacation

Improved Essays
It was Fall in Queens, New York, and I was enjoying the remainder of my summer vacation with my friends Travis, Rakim, and Rajon. We got together almost every weekend and had fun in the Autumn breeze before school started in September. 2003 had seemed to be the perfect year, George W. Bush was president, the Spurs won the NBA championship, and the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl. But, we were foolish in our adolescence and this summer turned out to be the most ludicrous vacation I had ever experienced in my 15 years. Travis, Rakim, Rajon, and I got ourself into godawful trouble that changed and strengthened our youthful minds for the better. This was the summer we transitioned from silly children into wise young adults.

Oday Alqaza H-1 As I was walking out of the beautiful fall evening, I see my cousin’s brand new Toyota 860 “special edition” outside of Day Creek Intermediate School. I was so excited that my head could have blasted off to outer space because the car’s speakers were so loud that I couldn’t hear my friends. The car was so white that the sun glared at me. I saw my favorite cousin was here, Abdul, was there, too.…

My day started waking up extraordinarily early in a splendid five star hotel from an extremely comfortable and pulpy bed complimented with heavenly pillows. This joyful day fills my body with excitement and replays in my mind as if it had happened for the first time. This wasn’t your average birthday present, no not some gift card to GameStop, not some pair of Stephen Curry’s, not even the next Call Of Duty game. The exact moment these words accessed my ears I almost passed out my parents had told me Alex we are going to Queens, New York so you can meet Carmelo Anthony, I was so ecstatic. It felt like it was just yesterday I was packing my bags and filling it with New York Knicks merchandise, I was so immature I even packed my poster of him and his jersey.…

It was almost summer vacation at Roanoke High School. You could hear it through the hallways. All the chit chat, the excited squeaks, the groans for the day to be over. The sun was shining brightly onto the overwhelmed students who were filled with anticipation; longing for that sweet chime of a bell, announcing to them that they were free. Free of the anxiety, free of the drama, free of the constant work.…

“Can I go forward when my heart is here?” (Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet). I would have been perfectly content to stay at home for the next 180 days. Waiting for the rusty yellow bus to swing around the corner, my brown hair is getting in my blue eyes. The air is crisp and so are the withered leaves I’m standing on.…

“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. We couldn’t wait to bust out of the schools doors and claim our prize of a short freedom for surviving another busy, exhausting, and slow week of middle school. I rushed to my locker, grabbed everything I would need for the homework due Monday, threw it in my bag and headed down the hall collecting my friends to walk to town to start what I would hope would be a slow but fun weekend off The weekend went quicker than I wished and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and I still hadn’t done my homework, I realized this and got to work.…

That morning I couldn’t think of anything besides the day that laid ahead. Although I was excited I still dreaded leaving the comfort of my warm bed. After I realized it was already 10:20, I shot out of bed and scurried to the shower so I wouldn’t be late. It might’ve been the fastest shower i’d ever taken. Breakfast was the last thing on my mind, even though I knew that I should eat.…

In April of 2012, on a spring break day, my sister and I had no clue that this normal-seeming day would turn into a day full of surprise. Maya, my sister, was four years old with blonde hair and eyes as light blue as a clear sky. Many people said her hair was as soft as silk. I, on the other hand, was seven years old with dark brown hair and chocolate eyes. The morning was a typical spring morning near the beach in Santa Cruz, foggy and cold.…

When we came back my older brother was the only one excited because that meant he could go swimming. We were all so hungry that we ordered room service, while my brothers were in the pool with their friends. As I sat impatiently waiting for the food, I watched all of the cars pass by. I wondered what it would be like to drive, what car I would drive, how fast I would go, where I would go, the possibilities are endless. After about twenty minutes we finally ate, I don’t think I have ever been happier to see food in my life after such a long day.…
