Jesus E Fernandez WCIV 10100-H Dr. LePree Fall 2016 Lucy; the most important discovery of the 20th Century Ever since discussions of human ancestry began, many people believed that Europe was the home of the first ancestors of humankind up until the end of the 20th century. An American paleoanthropologist by the name of Dr. Donald Carl Johanson, visited Ethiopia as part of the International Afar Research Expedition in 1973, as a result of this expedition, Dr. Johanson found a knee of a hominid that turned out to be about 3 million years old. Because of its size and the shape, he concluded that this knee belonged to an individual who was bipedal; a species that walks on two legs. A year after his first finding, Johanson went back to Ethiopia with his own expedition team to find what will later be called, Lucy, the Australopithecus Afarensis.…
“Should children have to be vaccinated to attend school?” (Lemons, 2016, p. 185). This statement is the prescriptive issue that Jane Fullerton Lemons, writer for the 2008 CQ Researcher posits in her report on “Vaccine Controversies.” In order to get both sides of the issue, Lemons obtained a testimony from Amy Pisani, Executive Director of Every Child By Two, and a rebuttal from Barbra L. Fisher, President of National Vaccine Information Center. Initially, my thought was to side with Fisher, but with further reading I 've concluded that Pisani had the stronger argument, despite the weaknesses given throughout.…
When seeing episodes of I love Lucy, she definitely breaks the mold of the typical house wife. In the 1950’s the typical TV family consisted of Caucasian husband, wife and children with little to no diversity. Often the mother devoted to her husband and kids tending to there every need, while the father was away working as the sole income to the family. In many cases there was a clear gender role in the household as women belonged in the house cooking and cleaning, as the men did the outside work such as working on the cars or mowing the lawn. Although, Lucy doesn’t fit the perfect model of the “Nuclear Family”, in spite of the fact there are many similarities.…
Over the past few years, there has been debate over vaccinating children. Many people believe the invalid study that was conducted by Andrew Wakefield in 1998 which linked vaccinations to autism. Others refuse to vaccinate because of toxins in vaccines. This movement against vaccination could potentially lead to a large scale outbreak of diseases that were once thought to be on the path to eradication. I believe that all school aged children should be required to be vaccinated.…
