A person’s truth is based upon their perception of the situation, but their inner strength will influence how they allow the situation to affect their perception. Some people choose to be the victim, while others believe in looking for the best of a situation. Oprah Winfrey, she has been quoted as saying, “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity” (Oprah.com, 2010). Are luck and opportunity connected or do we make our own good luck out of a situation? I agree with Oprah but I feel that how you perceive the truth will affect if your luck is good or bad.
To understand someone’s will to thrive, you simply must look at their history. If you look at Oprah’s life, she has been through hard times such as sexual abuse from family members. From a childhood to one of the most influential figures of the modern times, this shows her tenacity to not give up (Biography.com Editors, 2017). Oprah has become a successful business woman by making her own good luck and she has made a point to advise others of how to do it. John Rampton advises anyone who wants to be a successful business man should be fearless and have the right attitude (Rampton, 2015). I have learned to take even the worst situation, and find something good from it. You have to be prepared to have bad luck, and you have to be prepared to take that bad luck and learn from it to grow as a person. If I never had the opportunity to have my heart broken, I would have never found the ability to find the drive I have now. Even more, I would not have the belief in myself that I do today. Even in business, if you prepare for the worst luck, you can find an opportunity to grow. How you perceive that luck will set the precedence for how that luck will affect you. You can make lemonade out of lemons or you can make a lemon loaf that will rock your socks
