Lucinda Devlin: Photograph Analysis

The photograph of the Bath, Pocono Palace was taken in 1980 at Marshall Creek in Pennsylvania by Lucinda Devlin. This was for her series of Pleasure Ground photos. I will say that this is a photograph taken upside down of the bathtub and that the size is 14 fonts. The reason for this photograph of choice was because it gave me a sense of memory while the other pieces of artwork gave me no satisfaction. Since I was examining this photograph, I was intrigued by its one-point linear perspective, just like in my sketch while I was drawing. I was also enjoying the light relationship in the bathroom it gave out the intense shade of red and dark shadows so the unity of the picture was well taken and a good look at what that time was like as well. However, Lucinda …show more content…
But not too important to be historical, but then again, it has been worth seeing it, as to any other good art work in that museum. The photograph showed me what type of person, Lucinda Devlin is. She an independent woman who likes the idea of love and who has a good taste in hotels as well as in having fun. But as a photographer, I would say she has perfect timing and place techniques. I wonder if this was a challenge for Lucinda to take that photo while the on the other hand it shows a beautiful look at the picture which gave me a plentiful amount of ideas and memories of what it has been like to be in love and to have that creativity with the concept as well. When I was drawing this artwork, I don’t know how to go about it, for example; I was kind of in a hurry so I may have not gotten all the bath tub and palace symmetrical. For all I know, is that I may have even made some mistakes on the colors and size of the photograph. The main reason I have chosen this photo is because of the idea of wanting to go to that place and see it first glance is to know why does that place look so tempting and why a valentine’s day symbol as

Tastefully developed and carefully curated, The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University now holds one of the largest collections of Spanish art outside of Spain. The museum prides itself on displaying widely diversified paintings, a statement I do not fully agree with. Although the two-story museum’s walls are furnished with with a wide variety of subject content there is a chauvinistic sense about their collections. I am not saying there is an unequal ratio of male to female portraits because there isn’t. The museum has a plethora of women as subjects, but they only seem to only display women painted by men.…

I ponder that the artist created the artwork to give the audience a mystical feeling and to question them on “how was this artist influenced to create this Print”?, as well as the meaning and symbol behind this. Another question which may be evoked is “Was there a true story or place where this image occurred in “Margaret Prestons” life? In my opinion other people may react to this artwork as a place of relaxment where maybe Margaret Preston has visited. This may have been her favourite hide out or place to visit. As I examine this artwork I envisage it as an appearance during the 80’s due to the matured paint/colour fading away.…

Charles Emile-August Carolus-Duran’s piece titled Portrait of an Artist in her Studio represents the action of a women painting. This piece was made in the late 19th century (c. 1880) and was considered one of Carolus-Duran’s great society portraits. The piece’s present location is the La Salle University Art Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and its original location was *****. This portrait is oil on canvas, and the “quick, loose brushwork” technique can be accredited to masters such as Diego Velasquez and Edouard Manet (placard.) Just as the painting suggests, the painting’s subject is an artist, many say Carolus-Duran’s wife or mistress, in her studio.…

They say a picture is worth a thousands words I agree with that a picture can say a lot to the viewer, same thing with a painting. The photograph and painting I chose to write about is about Queen Elizabeth. The photograph of Queen Elizabeth was taken in 1952 by Beatrice Johnson and it shows Queen Elizabeth wearing a beautiful crown,a yellow patterned dress, with a sash, and diamond jewelry. In the picture the queen has a slight smile not showing any teeth because, it’s a type of picture where it’s taken serious. What I mean by that is she is someone that is well known and that photograph shows her royalty and her importance by wearing her crown.…

Walker Evans I was assigned to write about Walker Evans, born in the USA (1903-1975) who is considered a noticeable American photographer during his time, his art is considered influential during the twentieth century because he is considered a creator in the documentary style in the American photography. His photographs documented American life and culture during 30’s/70’s. I believe his journey through photography is a journey through concept, belief, and art history. At the beginning of his practice Evans admired and reflected the American history as his work documents the actual lifestyle of poor common people, it also described some of their agony and misery, this is why his art became a record that describes the important lifestyle during that time. This was all during the black and white photography technique at his early starts.…

Women in History: Artemisia Gentileschi’s Self-Portrait as the Allegory of Painting Surrounded by portraits of and by male artists, Artemisia Gentileschi’s (1593-1652) oil on canvas Self-Portrait as the Allegory of Painting (La Pittura) 1638-39 stands out in the midst of Vancouver Art Gallery’s “The Royal Collections: Portrait of the Artist” exhibition. As one of the only woman artist portraits, it pronounces itself in entirety to symbolise the prominence she has given females in history as she paints herself as La Pittura. She depicts herself not as females had been seen before, but as a hard working artist in the MIDST of creating a work of art. One of the most recognizable writers of Artemisia’s Self-Portrait and Biography Mary D. Garrard had stated “[she] made an audacious claim upon the core of artistic tradition, to create an entirely new image that was quite literally unavailable to any male artist]”, and this is dominant reasoning for the intrigue Artemisia contains as a historical female figure…

The publication “The Museum as Context” by Amy Tucker analyzes the environment of the museum and how culture and context is changed depending on the environment art is presented in. The purpose of art exhibitions is to show the audience an organized presentation of particular art pieces. The question raised in this chapter is whether the organization of the presentation is precise to represent each piece of work and does this representation distort the meaning of a piece. There are many ways art exhibitions are presented and displayed, from light to temperature. Exhibits can be considered a piece of art themselves due to the specific arrangements and methods of displaying items to connect the viewers with each piece of work.…
