The following events contributed to the tremendous success of a woman idolized by many, Lucille Désirée Ball. From an early age, it was evident that Lucy had an interest in dramatic arts when she convinced her mother to enroll her in a drama school in New York, at age 15. Unfortunately, these efforts seemed wasted when the school wrote her mother saying that Lucy was too quiet and shy, as well as a waste of time to the school. This granted her a few small film roles, and in fact she met her first husband, Desi Arnaz on the set of the film “Dance, Girl, Dance.” Lucy even died her hair the soon to be signature red she

The Imitation of Life and The Bluest Eye were two pieces of work that let their audience take a look at the world through the eyes of females in the 1930s. The Imitation of Life debuted in 1934 and was produced by John Stahl. Because it was set and made in a time before the Civil Rights Movement, there were a lot of guidelines that the production crew had to conform to that so the “wrong” message was not being displayed. There was a lot of scandal behind the making of the movies because many felt as though Louise Beavers, who played Aunt Delilah, should have received an Oscar for her performance in the movie but she did not because of the color of her skin.…

In Lucille Clifton’s “good times”, the speaker reflects on the poverty in her childhood and creates feelings of sympathy and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. Despite the speaker’s situation, she still finds the good in life. The literary device of repetition is used in the poem to convey the theme of always to focus on the good rather than the bad and to emphasize that although there is poverty in the speaker’s life, she still remains positive. Repetition, or a refrain, is seen at the end of each stanza. This repetition or refrain refers back to the title of the poem and reveals the central message of the poem that one must not take the simple things in life for granted.…
