In the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, he tells the stories of many soldiers and what there experiences were in war. Many of the soldiers described in this novel were soldiers that were forced to fight in the Vietnam War. I will now choose three soldiers from the novel and examine how these soldiers were changed by their experiences. The three characters and their stories that I am going to use is Lt. Jimmy Cross and he carried the fact that his ex girlfriend Martha would never love him again. Henry Dobbins who is the second character carries his girlfriends pantyhose around his neck for good luck. Kiowa who is the last character that I am going to talk about and he carries his grandfathers hunting hatchet.
