This new embedded narrator gives the reader a better understanding of how she came about being able to mix the drug with the wine and the effects it would have on her guest. Right after Helen introduces us by telling the story of the women in Egypt the narrator went back to the original story line. (Hom. Od 4. 130). Helen was also loyal to Odysseus by swearing to a binding oath to keep his identity a secret from the Trojans. In To kill a Mockingbird Atticus also made an oath to protect Tom Robinson from the mob who wanted him dead. In this particular scene while trying to persuade the mob to leave the narrator who is also Atticus’s Daughter Scout introduces us to another story line within the main story about Mr. Cunningham sons. (to Kill a Mockingbird 174). The story did not really tell us exactly who Mr. Cunningham was but it did introduce his son and depicts what type of a person he is. Which gives the reader an understanding of the father and son relationship. Besides base on this story she told and the effect it had on Mr. Cunningham she eventually got the mob to disperse. Embedded narratives moves away from the main story line and draws us into a story within that story which makes the story more interesting and appealing. It draws the reader’s mind away from the main story by having us visualizing what has taken place within the main story line. Both story line of The Odyssey and To Kill a Mockingbird depicts the importance of loyalty. Whether it was ancient Greek or in the 20th century embedded narratives played a vast role in these storylines. Loyalty to a friend or even a stranger is epic and based on this these men and women throughout the story lines should be considered the heroes. In the Odyssey, Odysseus men were loyal to him, his son was also loyal to him a man he did not know, even strangers were loyal to him and as a result of this he was able to find his way back home. To kill a Mockingbird Atticus can be considered a brave man because he beat all odds in defending Tom and although he did not win the case he was seen as a
