Loyalty and trust rely on each other in order to have a healthy friendship, because if one is not loyal towards another individual then trust cannot be produced. An example of loyalty strengthening friendships and increasing trust is when Lennie says “But not us! An’ why? Because . . . I got you to look after me and you got me to look after you and that’s why”. (Steinbeck 14)” This is an example of loyalty because Lennie is saying that they will always have each other’s backs. They will always do what is better for each other not themselves, also once an individual has another individual to look after them life becomes much easier. With them depending on each other it creates trust that didn’t exist before, the trust benefits from the friendship. Another example of loyalty in the book is when George is explaining about leaving Weed and he says “So we sit in a irrigation ditch under water all the rest of that day. Got on’y our heads sticking out from the side of the ditch. An’ that night we scrammed outta there.” This is an example of George being loyal to Lennie because George is sticking around even if it messes up his life just to be there for Lennie. As a reader of this novel one could say George will always be loyal to lennie. George leaves clues that shows he will always be loyal to Lennie. Lennie may have shook up George’s life but George is still supporting him. …show more content…
For example: “No-look! I was jus’ fooling, Lennie. ‘Cause I want you to stay with me” (Steinbeck 12). This example is George forgiving Lennie for all he has ever done and this still makes the friendship even stronger. Without being able to forgive, the friendship wouldn’t be alive. George is basically wanting Lennie to know he forgives so that they can move on. It opened new doors to the friendship and made it stronger than before because they were cable of forgiving one another. “It ain’t so funny, him an’ me goin’ around together,” George said at last.” Him and me was both born in Auburn. I knowed his aunt Clara. She took him when he was a baby and raised him up. When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin’. Got kinda used to each other after a little while” (Steinbeck 37). This is an example of forgiving. George forgave Lennie for shaking up his life and started to care for him. Their friendship bloomed in many different ways that wouldn’t have happened if George didn’t forgive
