Loyalists Vs Patriots

America’s declaration of independence was a huge event in our nation's history. It freed us from Great Britain and made us independent. During the time, there were two distinct political groups within the colonies; the Loyalists and the Patriots. Loyalists, like their name states, were loyal to Britain and believed that the colonies were better off being ruled by Britain. The Patriots, however, wanted to be independent and free from Britain. These Patriots and the Loyalists both viewed the Declaration of Independence as a landmark in our nation's history and to its relationship with Great Britain, but with different connotations. Loyalists seeked to defend their mother country and believed it was morally wrong to go against it, believing everything that Great Britain did was correct. There would not have been an America if Great Britain had not helped the colonists settle down. Britain truly was America’s mother country. It supplied the colonies with resources that they needed. Their beliefs in freedom and independence were the foundation in which this nation was built upon. The colonists were sick of being controlled by Britain, being forced to pay taxes and not allowed to settle where they want. They were also annoyed as Britain was so far away, but still punishing them through the Intolerable Acts. The Declaration of independence helped make America a better place. During the time, it must have been very hard to choose which side to be on with all these ideas and opinions flying around. The Declaration of Independence was a big step in the creation of our nation and it is natural to have political groups such the Loyalists and Patriots takes different sides on the matter. Without the Declaration of Independence freeing us from Britain, America would not be the big and powerful country it is
