Lowering the drinking age has been an issue for some time now. Although, there are valid reasons on both sides of the spectrum, I believe the drinking age should be lowered. One of the main points I always use when arguing this topic with someone is; if you can die in war at 18, you should be able to celebrate your homecoming with a drink. There are 194 countries and the U.S. is one 6 with a drinking age of 21. Also, majority of people under 21 are going to drink regardless of the legal age.
When you turn 18 everyone says “Well, now you can vote!”. You can vote at 18, buy cigarettes, join the military, and buy pornography (in some states). If you can do all of those things but you can’t drink? Joining the military is one of the most honorable things a person can do, in my opinion. A person has the ability to take someone’s life while in the military, they also have the ability to save many lives. If they can handle that responsibility then they definitely should be able to handle a beer. If everyone in your unit got together to have a drink because you all made it home safely, wouldn’t you want to be able to celebrate with them? If I was parent I would want to be able to get a drink with my son/daughter if they returned home safely.
