Lower Grade Point Average

Gym Grades should not impact your grade point average. It is highly unjust for the grades a student receives in physical education to make an impact (more so a deficient one) on their grade point average because it is not fair to the students that do well in all of their other classes besides gym to earn a lowered grade point average because of a class that only seems to be measuring your intelligence off of how competently you can participate in physical activity. There are a number of other reasons why it is not fair, one of them is that some children don’t participate in gym because it makes them feel uncomfortable. It is not fair to those that feel like they physically cannot participate, or legitimately cannot participate to receive a lowered grade even if it is based off of effort. One of my main reasons I believe that a lowered grade point average ensuing from a substandard grade in physical education is …show more content…
Earning a lowered grade point average may affect what classes the student is put into or even the college they get into at least upon first glance, assuming that the person or people making these decisions would put further consideration into the students grades. Not receiving a fitting grade in gym can also lower or even eradicate a student’s chances of graduating when they should, even if they received suitable grades in each of their other classes. Obtaining a lowered grade point average under this circumstance just simply isn’t fair, especially since someone's intelligence shouldn’t be based off of whether or not they know how to throw a

In “Why Elite-College Admissions Need an Overhaul”, Jonathan R. Cole, the author of the essay, made a very strong argument on why the college admissions process is not right or fair. Within his argument, Cole states what elite colleges look for now, why what they look for is wrong, and what colleges should do instead of their current process to prove his point. I agree with Cole in his statement that the college admissions process needs an overhaul because there are some phenomenal students who are being looked over by colleges. Although I agree with his statements, I do not necessarily agree with the way Cole thinks the process should be.…

In college, students want to receive the highest grade so that they can be part of the Dean’s List or look good on their resumes. Edmundson mentions how some professors soften the grades of their students. I agree with Edmundson with this reason because at the previous university I attended, my math professor exempt most of the class because of her absences throughout the semester. She ‘felt bad’ because she didn’t have time to teach her class. The worst part was that students believed they got exempt because they were ‘good enough’ in math.…

The same can be said about using a regular GPA system. There are several advantages such as: lack of pressure on the students to pursue overly challenging classes, equal playing fields for the students, and a lack of concerns over how to factor honors courses into GPAs. Students in a weighted GPA high school may feel pressured to take classes that are too challenging for them, thus damaging their GPA when it would have been fine if they would have stuck to their regular classes. Not only does this damage their GPA, but it damages the school’s reputation. A school’s success is determined by the success of the students.…

According to the Washington Post, data has proven that there is a direct correlation between high school grade point average and the average annual adulthood earnings. According to Michael T. French, he director of the health economics research groups at the University of Miami, said “A one-unit increase in your GPA has a very sizable impact on your education and earnings.” It is for that reason that we must affirm today’s resolution to mandate a national minimum grade point average. The first point I would like to bring up today is that a national minimum grade point average would encourage students to lean more and earn a better living later in life. For every one point increase in high school grade point average earnings in adulthood increase twelve percent for men and fourteen percent for women.…

The thoughts of trying to keep up with all the assignments and maintain a good grade point average seems overwhelming. Even though it may be true that number grades could possibly hurt a students self esteem in reality keeping number grades is necessary to help students get ahead in life with a better attitude. The grades students get in high school go beyond just that school since most students rely on their grades to get into a good college. Changing the grades so it only shows "pass" or "fail" is not a good idea because you can no longer distinguish a student who gets all A's and a student who is barley passes because for both of these students it was just say "pass". Students will probably start to slack off more because all the have to do now is pass because you won't be able to figure out by how much they are passing.…

Do they see someone who is always lifting weights, the popular kid in school, or a so called “dumb jock”? These are some of the stereotypes that we have of athletes. GPA Argument Essay

Did you know in some high schools in Ohio, the minimum GPA to participate in sports is only a 1.0? GPAs should be the factor to decide if a high schooler is eligible to play in sports, due to the facts that having a standard encourages students in the classroom, it also helps them outside of high school and into their college years, and sets a good example throughout the district for other students to follow. Firstly, having GPAs as the decision to pass kids into sports or not encourages these students to work hard in their studies. Without that extra push, these students can easily fall behind in their efforts to work hard and not get the full advantage of learning in the classroom, by just ‘getting by’.…
