The American Chiropractic Association states that as many as 30 million Americans suffer from lower back pain at some point in their lives. Many of these people live in the Seattle area. Typically, most people with low back pain will make an appointment with their family doctor, which often leads to a prescription of anti-inflammatory drugs. These are known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. These drugs can be helpful short-term, but they also come with a myriad of harmful side effects, such as upset stomachs and bleeding ulcers. For this reason and many others, people seek out lower back chiropractic care for drug-free pain relief.

Chiropractic Treatment for Lower Back Pain

When you visit a chiropractor, he or she will do a thorough examination, take notes on your history, the pain location, and when it began. The doctor will also ask you to describe the pain and what you were doing when it started. In addition, lab tests will be ordered, which may include x-rays, a CT Scan or an MRI.

After reviewing the imaging tests, the doctor will show the patient the findings, and what is attributing to the pain. He or she will recommend a treatment plan, which often involves spinal manipulations, and other therapies. Spinal adjustments help to relieve pressure, improve blood flow, and improve spinal flexibility. If tissue damage is shown in the imaging tests, the doctor may include electrical muscle stimulation. This consists of placing electrodes on the skin and the machine produces minimal electric pulses, which helps with inflammation, thus lessening overall
