The idyllic beaches of Lovers Key State Park put you far away from civilization as you romp up and down this pristine area. The west side of the park contains the main beach, while two smaller beaches inhabit the northern part of the park. Surrounding islands harbor diverse wildlife. You may have to drive a bit to get here, but the extra effort is well worth it.

Location
South of beautiful Fort Myers sits Lovers Key State Park and its perfect, white beaches along Florida?s Gulf Coast. Travel north on Hickory Boulevard west of Bonita Springs, or drive south on McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers, to reach the area. Both Hickory and McGregor turn into Estero Boulevard as it approaches Lovers Key State Park. You can also dock your boat at Lovers Key State Park as the islands are completely separated from mainland Florida in Estero Bay.

Check for sand dollars, clams, crabs and small conch shells. Please don?t take any shells that still belong to a living animal. If you see a hermit crab or sea star, just leave them alone to move along the beach they call home.
Sunbathing
Soak up the sun during the summer months when you kick back, relax and take in the gorgeous scenery. Lay out your towel next to your lawn chair and beach umbrella, all of which are available at the concession stand. The subtropical climate and flat land means you have several hours of good sunbathing weather during the warmest part of the day.
Swimming
Take a dip in the waters off the beach to cool off on a hot summer?s day. Swim at your own risk, though, because there are no lifeguards on duty.
Weddings
Hundreds of happy couples get married every year on the beach. The dedicated pavilion seats dozens of guests as the bride and groom exchange vows. Every Valentine?s Day, Friends of Lovers Key sponsors a marriage vow renewal ceremony that benefits wildlife conservation efforts within the park.

In Roxane Gay’s article “Why the Beach Is a Bummer” she explains her outlook on the beach and why it’s a place of discomfort rather than fun. “This is an ideal beach of hot sun, warm sand, crystal-clear water that leaves your skin salted. As much as I do love the beach and enjoy laying in the sun I agree with Gay’s perspective of the beach to an extent.…
