The song I have chosen to analyze is Lover You should have come over. It was written and performed by the artist, Jeff Buckley and appears as the seventh track on his debut album entitled, Grace. The album was recorded at, Bearsville studios in, Woodstock, New York and released under the Columbia record label in August of 1994. The song begins with a dreamy organ intro that is preformed rubato. The melody is in a minor key, the melody is conjunct and legato giving it a gospel and dissonant feel. This intro leads to the band entering in a 6/8 feel and the tempo is Moderato. The instrumentation is drums, bass, acoustic guitar and organ. The band plays for four bars before Jeff begins to sing his first melody. The vocal melody is legato and also conjunct.

This creates tension which is then released when the piece resolves back to the original chord progression.
