Romeo and Juliet is one of the best original love stories. it was written by the famous author, William Shakespeare. In 1968 Franco Zeffirelli directed his own version of Romeo and Juliet. Then in 1997 Baz Luhrmann directed another version of the play. The two films have a lot in common, but at the same time they both have many differences. Like the costumes, props, scenes and setting.
In the 1997 film directed by Luhrmann, it shows the way people live in the present days. In the prologue we see that the clever use of music, montage of images, quick succession of shots, and effective camera angles that he uses quickly transports us into a more modern day drama. We also see the two corporate buildings with Montague on one side and Capulet on the other side of the street; the buildings symbolizes the divide between the two families. Luhrmann's version is very unique, that it brings Romeo and Juliet into modern day. All of the characters are dressed in clothing or dresses that are big because it is a little bit colder than usual. The 1997 version takes place in a hot summer like setting, where it is always sunny and the characters hang out at the beach, with clothes that are for summer days.
Luhrmann has made it easier for modern day viewers to create a connection to the characters with this newer style of Romeo and Juliet, as it is harder to understand what exactly is going on in the 1968 film as it is older. But Luhrmann still keeping Shakespeare's language in the film has kept the age-old of
