Love, A Subject Revisited. "All, everything that I understand, I understand because love is." (Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace) What is love? Webster's Dictionary defines love as: "a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person." Although the definition widely capsulated the feelings of the billions of people on this planet, the word 'love' is defined in a countless multitude of ways. The definition seems to change throughout the course of history developing as mankind does. Our definitions changing as our own personal factors on the matter interject. However, love remains the same general concept and definition throughout the essence of time. Time is a considerable factor in the mindset of any one person due to the environment and mannerisms …show more content…
Love for adults definitely varies compared to love for adolescents. "Love is a smile that shines through the dark. Love is a pure emotion that requires no reason to exist. Anger and sadness, however, require some action for a reaction. Love does not. Other emotions come from the head but I truly believe love comes from the heart. I was deeply in love with my husband. Through the years, love remained a constant while other emotions came and went. The love continued and lasted." (Julie Stupp, 53) As we love someone in our youth, we discover much more about love than ever thought possible. We discover it is not what we thought love should be as a child, there are no dragons or wizards but the magic is still there. Magic through being able to grow and discover who you are with the person you adore. "My personal definition of love is knowing someone's flaws and their bad sides and all their negatives and still wanting to be around them despite all of their issues. Love has affected me by raising my self esteem and making me actually love myself and be a softer, more kind human being. Love is like a plant, if you expect it to grow, flourish and thrive, you have to water it and give it the attention it needs. The end results will be …show more content…
Art is the foundation of which our very souls are built upon, so in turn, love intertwines with art. Cinema is overflowing with references to love seeing as it is a universal entity of sharing thoughts and feelings through visual aspects. Love is why we can watch a foreign film in an entirely different language and still be satisfied because love speaks no language but of the world. “I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”(Harry Burns, When Harry Met Sally) When Harry Met Sally is often seen as one of the greatest and truest romances to grace the modern screen and by personal definition I believe it is adherently so. Love is indeed wanting to be with all of the person you adore, despite their flaws, and loving them even more so because they are unique in those very flaws. Love is often portrayed by definition by

The Great Gatsby Love is a strange and undefinable emotion, the concepts and ideas about love are very broad, but one thing is not: It is powerful. Love makes people vulnerable, it may seem like a bullet that pierces through your perpetuity, but what is a person without vulnerability. People are born from that passion and that is why life is an endless conquest in pursuit of that same love. The feel of it is what makes a human a human. All rationality and sanity go out the window and one is left in their original state, almost like an animal of instinct.…

“Love is the only thing that lets us see each other with the remotest accuracy,” was a quote stated by Martha Beck. This quote conveys that with love comes the ability to be able to truly know a person or object. The ability to do this comes with times of analyzation. For example, when you decide you truly love that outfit you wore you came to that conclusion by analyzing the texture, color, style and in general all of it; without these judgements you wouldn’t have been able to reach that discovery. Henry David Thoreau’s piece the “Journal” states, “Love does not analyze its object,” this quote is wrong because you must analyze the object to determine your feelings towards it, in addition sometimes the things you love need to be fixed and to figure out what is wrong in the first place you must scrutinize the object, also analyzation of the object you love is necessary because love can be blinding.…

Love is an ambiguous feeling; it is often questionable to even those experiencing it whether it does or does not exist, and yet more difficult to analyze from a third perspective. The very definition of love is subjective but at its core it is a strong attraction towards someone that you care for deeply. Shakespeare explored some themes of love in the play Hamlet, such as the relationship between Hamlet and Ophelia. Hamlet originally did have a genuine love for Ophelia but it was lost in the midst of selfishness and revenge.…

Love is defined as a feeling of attachment, or affection towards someone or something. Although this Germanic word may have its own meaning, to me it means something a little different. For example love is the way my father used to lay in the middle of mine and my sisters room holding both our hands till we fell asleep, reason being that we had nightmares. Love is late night chocolate and ranting sessions my mother and I have over a boy, life, and just to get it all out. It’s the taste of chocolate pudding my little brother makes when people aren’t feeling well, and due to him saying “that’s all I know how to make”.…

Love: an aspect of life both complex and simple, both mysterious and apparent, both evasive and accessible. Great thinkers have mused over this concept, its different forms and effects, for centuries. Many ask the question of love's role in happiness: is it truly necessary? What is love? A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person, an emotional and sexual desire, or simply a basic brain system that evolved for mating and reproduction(Dictionary.com). Many believe they have found love, while others are confident they know its meaning. Truth be told love is a universal function that can never fully be fathomed. Although I consider romantic love to be an action of self sacrifice and not an emotion love is still a broad subject, in which I believe it can easily be is mistaken.…

What is love? Is it a feeling, or is it something much more than that? No one knows what love is or how to explain it, making it one of the most popular themes throughout the literary world. There are many different things that come into play when talking about adult love which are the triangular theory of love, patterns of love, as well as the attachment theory. The triangular theory of love was developed by Robert J. Sternberg. The triangular theory of love presents three different building blocks and in order for love to be complete in a relationship all of the building blocks must exist. When multiple or even just one of the building blocks is missing in a love relationship it can lead to a disintegration. There are three different types of building blocks in love and those are passion, commitment, and intimacy.…
