Love Maybe Book Report

For my novel study on the book Love? Maybe. I didn’t use any background information for my understanding of the story because my book is not a part of a series or made into a movie.

As the story begins, the main character, named Piper Paisley, is talking to her friends Jillian and Claire in the candy shop she works in, called Jan The Candy Man, and she is stocking up the truffle pyramids while Jillian talks to her about Valentine's day, which happens to be Piper’s birthday. Jillian is trying to convince Piper to help her make a plan for Valentine’s day.

My story is told by Piper, the main character, and is in the point of view of the first person. An example from the book would be; ‘I shrug. “I just don’t see the point. It’s not like it’s required.”’ I know it is in first person point of view because the narrator says ‘I’.

Some supporting characters include Peter, who is an ex-boyfriend of Piper, Stuart, who is Claire’s boyfriend (ex later on), Frank Wishman, Charlie’s dad who is a painter, and Beau, Piper’s step dad. What makes Peter important is he is a

I think that it isn’t actually that romantic, and it isn’t all that it’s said to be. I think that Valentine’s day is just a silly day where everyone gets a weird heart shaped candy or something and funny valentine cards. Everyone thinks that it’s a lovey dovey day but to me, it just doesn’t seem like it. I don’t really like Valentine’s day, so I can relate to Piper there.

The second major connection I can make to my novel would be that being a teenager is hard, that there is a lot of drama involved in it, and that at the end of the day when you go home, you have to do homework and sometimes go to work. When I was younger I couldn’t wait to be a teenager because I thought it was cool, but now I realize it isn’t as cool or fun as I thought it would be. Being a teenager is harder than others think it

Even though the phrase “point of view” is just three measly words, it is one of the most important choices an author needs to make while deciding how they are going to write their story. Will they write in first person and use “I”, and “we”, or write in 3rd person and address people by their names or use pronouns like “he” or “they”? Although many people decide to write in third person point of view, both the stories The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, and Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse by Anna Sewell develop their characters through first person point of view. The Georges and the Jewels is a story in perspective of a little girl named Abby, who has had both the good and the bad with horses. She has been thrown off of her…

There are really four major parts of a narrative. Narratives include the point of view, dialogue, shift of time, and symbolism. Almost all writers use these parts in their writing. Two examples of these types of writers are Mark Twain and Frederick Douglass. Although not all of the parts were composed the same way they are there in writings by both authors.…

Grendel, as expressed within the writings of “Beowulf”, is shown as a terrifying and horrendous, monster. However, there is not much backstory within “Beowulf” to fully infer that this is how Grendel truly is and how he truly acts. Within the story of “Grendel”, Grendel is shown as, not only a monster, but as a living thing that is coherent and thinks as a scholar does. Therefore, within John Gardner’s “Grendel”, Gardner is trying to make us sympathize with Grendel and his unfortunate life.…

The Tragedy Paper is a story that starts with an albino, teenage boy named Tim telling his side of a tragedy that shook an entire high school for years to come. Tim tells his tragic story through a series of CDs that are given to another teenage boy named Duncan. The book itself revolves around a tragedy that no one dares to speak of while being tied together with a teenage romance. The book keeps the interest of the younger readers and serves a good purpose for learning about tragic stories. I believe that The Tragedy Paper should continue to be taught every year and remain on the FCCC’s junior English curriculum because it is relatable, it teaches tragedy, and helps you learn from the mistakes of others.…

Point of view is vital in evaluating stories because with one change the story could have a whole new interpretation that was not meant to happen. The entire story is told in a third person limited point of view. Third person limited is defined as the narrator only knowing the thoughts and feelings of one character, and that is the character in which the story is told by. However, the majority of “A New Leaf” is told solely through the eyes of Julia. The only time we know what is going on is when Julia is in the scene.…
