In The Giver, Lois Lowry teaches us that love is essential to life. Even though citizens of the community are forbidden to love, Jonas and the Giver show us again and again how important love really is. An example of Jonas showing love is when he gives him memories:“Each night he gave memories to Gabriel…’Gabe?’...’There could be love,’ Jonas whispered,”(161-162). He is giving Gabe memories and treating him how a real parent should treat their child. The Giver also gives Jonas memories of family and love, and Jonas felt”...luxuriating in the warm and comforting memory”(155). Love also matters in life because if Jonas hadn’t learned about love, he would’ve never left the community. But he did, because he wanted to make the world how it should
