One Of the most important themes of this play is Love, It took a toll on most of the characters as far emotions went especially Helena so The themes that I am going to be taking up a discussion about in my essay are Parental Love(Egeus And Hermia, Titania And The Little Indian Boy),Forced Love(Thesus And Hippolyta) ,And Unrequited Love(Helena And Demetrius). In the beginning of the play we see a forced love between Theseus and Hippolyta the queens of the Amazons. Theseus mentions in act 1 “I wooed thee with my sword, To portray that he won her with his sword as in the battle to win her love. This obviously shows that helena is in love with Demetrius but he is blinded by the love he has for Hermia, trying to get helena to leave him alone he constantly ignores her when all along she is madly in love with him and isn’t going to give up. But this backfires on Demetrius causing the love that Helena has for him to grow even more and a very dangerous cycles forms and get worse without them noticing it happening, As I was reading I saw that there was an example of abuse by what Demetrius said “I love Thee Not, therefore pursue me not” (Shakespeare PG 1661). Their Love/Hate Relationship was kind of emotional to me because even though she loved him he did not love her and she was continuously getting her feelings hurt. True love is also expressed in this play between Hermia and Lysander’s. Even though Egeus demands his daughter to marry Demetrius but she refuses and runs away with Lysander. Despite the obstacles the couple had to face, between Hermia’s father refusing Lysander to marry her and Lysander and Demetrius fighting over her because they both love her. Hermia’s and Lysander’s love succeeds in the end this shows true love is strong and cannot be ignored and with determination it
