I eagerly performed my first dissection that year, and I soaked up every moment of it. Seeing real organs and muscles for the first time made me immensely curious about what my own body looks like. Since then my interest has not faded, and my Baylor courses have continued to cultivate my love for science. Knowing how my body functions makes me appreciate life even more. Every heartbeat, eye blink, and breathe is so complex and beautiful. Furthermore, I find myself in awe of my body’s numerous abilities, and pursuing a career that focuses on a subject I love excites me. As I invested in these girls by teaching them to seek God, I also learned how to meet the needs of each child. One Sunday, I struggled to engage a withdrawn student and when time for worship came she refused to participate. As the other girls sang and danced, I joined this girl on the ground and rubbed her back as I sang the lyrics. Moments later, I noticed she began to murmur the words, and I was elated. This small victory showed me that encouraging people means meeting them where they are. I believe this lesson will allow me to communicate with individuals within a team of medical professionals more effectively during times of
