Love For History

Improved Essays
History is just a compilation of several compelling stories of the past put together. I love that I am able to learn intriguing and true stories about places, people, and events that I have never seen physically or experienced personally.
History is very interactive and requires creative and attentive thinking to connect why and how occurrences took place the way they did. For instance, I did not fully understand why the Americans revolutionized against the British until I viewed their struggle from the perspective of an oppressed and unfairly treated individual whose voice was not being heard. I used my personal experiences of unfair treatment to understand their situation.
My love for history has also motivated me to take honors and AP courses.

History has always been a big part of my life. I remember in first grade pouring all of my affections onto the historical fiction American girl doll books in the elementary school library and imagining myself as a Swedish immigrant in 1854, or as a young patriot in 1774. During second and third grade I devoted my free time to reading about the Civil War and the Spanish explorers that conquested through my native Florida. In fourth grade I remember leaping through a native american pottery exhibit on a field trip to Tallahassee, desperately trying to obtain all of the knowledge the signs held before being dragged away by my classmates and chaperone. On a fifth grade field trip I was left behind at an exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center because I was too engrossed in the history of rhesus monkeys being shot into space to notice that my entire class had moved on to the I-Max theater.…

History often attempts to establish why events unfolded in a particular way, providing analysis of prior events as evidence. History does not aim to provide the most entertaining or convenient explanation of the past, rather the most thorough and the most accurate. By contrast, literature can interpret, embellish and even make up its sources. Literature does not have to be grounded in reality; it sets out to provide the best possible story. However, literature and history are not distinct; there are many similarities between the two.…

Boneyard Garden Exploration Cemeteries do not frighten me; they are serene places that are frequently neglected until a new tenant comes to reside. Unlike some individuals I know, I would not mind if I lived next door to one. It is not as if the occupants are going to be climbing up from their plot and banging on my door asking for a cup of tea with a bit of sugar. The notion of my demise does make me uneasy, but no one can elude death.…

History has always been my favorite subject in school especially during high school. It helps us understand the past and how society functioned during periods of prosperity and despair. It can also be interpreted differently, which allows us to have a discussion about that difference in perspectives. History are stories of us. Stories that were not made up by an author looking for fame and recognition by the masses.…

Manhattan Project and The Analysis of Atomic Explosions History is defined as some event that has happened in the past with having a impact in some area on Earth. Without history people would not be able to learn from their past mistakes and continue on with life. This learning from our mistakes can change what people do or how people do different things. It's exciting to learn about the past because we can get a better understanding of why things are the way they are and help prevent things from history. I love history because there is a vast amount of untold/unlearned stories that are waiting to be told and discovered.…

History is something that anyone can make or tell to future generations. Most people like hearing about things that happen in the past. Sometimes people do not keep the story true to what actually happened. I believe that it is wrong to change the story. I believe that the people worked hard for their accomplishments, and worked to hard for their part in history not to be told.…

When looking back at different historical events, it seems to be that these events are told from the viewpoint of one single party. History is a story made from bits of the past, stories that are built on narratives. For example history books, these books are a reconstructed version of the past for the present. The past is what is made up of events, events that have happened before now and history. But in all the past is gone and only exist in our reconstructions of it.…

History is an amazing thing, for those who are alive to experience it, or at least watch it on the news. You get to tell your grandchildren about it and they will probably feign interest as they run off to play with their new electronic entertainment 7000 device. I will always remember where I was when a piece of american history took place, little more than a decade ago, my parents took me Disney World, a place where nothing ever goes wrong and everyone is always happy. The first couple days we were there, were mostly my parents trying to keep up with two toddlers desperately trying to make it to the next nap time. After two days of this, on a sunday morning, my baby brother and I, who isn’t much of a baby anymore at 6’3”, were…

I am fascinated by history. I find this subject compelling because of how much it is overlooked, and also because by engaging with historical texts and stories, one is able to experience life vicariously through others in different time periods. By digging into history one can fight alongside the peasants in the French Revolution, explore new frontiers, and protest for social justice in the 1960s. Individuals can witness the brilliance of the Library of Alexandria, and can help in the construction of The Great Pyramids, all without moving from your seat. Reading about any of these events are priceless, but getting to feel as though you have lived and experienced the event is absolutely irreplaceable.…

Not only do you make history but did you know history actually makes you? It starts with ancestors without them nobody would be here today. History is the story of our existence. Always evolving, human beings have become the dominant species on the planet. When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…
