I think the statement refers Erik as the poison. It’d make sense to refer Erik as the poison since he has been making fun of Joey and his brother, which really increased Paul’s hate for him. This quote also fits in with the recent problem about the termite infested houses, and putting poison in them to get rid of them. The poison, which is Erik is dangerous so, it should be covered, and bound by ropes. This is also kind of a foreshadowing since Erik in a way is secluded like the house, like when he was put in house arrest.…
My whole life I have struggled with answering the question “where are you from?” As a little girl I was always tongue-tied. I didn’t know my family’s history, I never had the ability to establish myself in one place because my father’s job required constant adjustments to my surroundings. However, my sophomore year I took my first college level American History course and it began opening doors I didn’t know existed. I soon realized that I may not know exactly where I come from, I may not belong to a specific state or region, but I am a part of the big picture –The United States of America.…
In my trips to Sweden to visit my grandfather, aunt, and other relatives, I was able to see the different aspects of the society and city culture of Stockholm, and have tried to incorporate the positive ones into my life in Manhattan. Although I will always primarily identify as American, I am able to recognize the disconnect with nature that one faces in New York. The Swedes find their peace of mind in nature, and I have learned to adapt to find a similar mindset in an urban environment. My friends might not see what is particularly foreign about my habits, but to me, their origin and their associations are closely linked to my paternal heritage. I believe that my American and Swedish perspectives will help me as I leave high school and enter…
The United States experienced a flood of immigrants from all over the world, during the 1860’s to the 1920’s, which can also be called the colonial era. The immigrants that entered the United States had many intentions to improve there life. Whether they come for another chance at life, or they come to escape battles, The United States was the go-to option. The United States is home to the American flag, which symbolizes freedom and protection, which is exactly what these immigrants wanted and needed. An example of a popular immigrant group that came to the United States were the Italians.…
Exasperation and defeat played big parts in my research journey in the Genealogy J-Term. Throughout my persistent irritation from not finding any new information, I constantly felt as if I were going to give up and almost had regret choosing this class. All of this frustration I possessed evaporated when I finally started interrogating my family members and confirming the few things I knew about my ancestry. After days of discovering pages of information and scavenging the internet for censuses, I developed a vivid veneration for the people that came before me.…
Human Evolution For many years people have wondered how the human evolution started and why are we different from other species. Science brings us to new knowledge of how humans evolved in this world and the transition of apes to humans. The Human family tree starts from the Ardipithecus groups about 6 million years ago, the next one is Australopithecus group is about 4 million ago, the third one is paratroops group is about 3 million years ago and the last one is the homo groups is about 1 million years ago. Ardipithecus kaddaba was discovered in Ethiopia in 1997 by a paleoanthropologist Yohannes Haile-Selassie and was dated to 5.8 million years old. Ardipithecus group is similar to modern day chimpanzees because of the bones and facial structure.…

Our family is probably the most the most precious and treasured item we possess. It serves as a building block to a content a proper existence and is exhibited as what we need the most to overcome life’s obstacles. They teach us an abundance of rituals and skills that are very analogous to gifts in my perspective. My family, a unique one by nature, is a physical example of what most people would call bizarre. With their childish hijinks or obscene lingo, they give bizarre a whole new meaning.…
Southern Italians, upon receiving political, cultural, and social discrimination and mistreatment in their own home nation sought out a better life in the United States beginning in the early 1860s after Italy 's unification. Spurned by their own government, they came to America hoping that life would turn around for them. Unfortunately, this would prove not to be the case because until the end of the Second World War Southern Italian immigrants would face extreme discrimination by the American government and its citizens. The largest questions one should ask when attempting to understand this complicated history are: What factors led Southern Italians to feel it necessary to immigrate to America and why was the experience of Northern Italians so different? How were Southern Italian immigrants treated/discriminated against upon their arrival in the United States?…
After being asked by the professor about my family’s immigration story, I am motivated to find out more about my family’s history. Most of the time, people do not have the opportunity to ask their elderly family, relatives about their ancestors. It is really amazing to learn more about my family history. It never comes to my mind till now. To gather more information, I asked my mom, my older brother, my grandpa, uncles, and aunts.…

My Irish heritage has been a central focus of my life for as long as I can remember, dictating the stories I hear, the food I eat, and the way I act. Every one of my ancestors hailed from Ireland on both my mother’s and my father’s sides of the family. My father’s family hails from County Kerry, and my mother’s from Counties Offaly and Mayo. Most of my relatives came to the United States four or five generations back, but my closest connection comes from my maternal grandfather. When his parents came to New York City, they had already met in Ireland, so when my great grandfather left for America to find work, my great grandmother Lucy Finnerty followed him over.…
In this narrative I analyze my family genogram. I explore my family’s makeup and history. I state my family’s relationships as well as my own. Then I discuss the emotions I encountered as I developed my family genogram. In addition, I elaborate on the importance of constructing genograms with co participants.…
Doing a Genogram about my family history, beliefs, and culture is somewhat difficult for me due to a number of reasons. One being that I never met my biological father therefore don’t know anything of the family background that compiles half of my genetic make up, another reason being because I know very little of my mother’s extended family, and frankly because I don’t think we really have many structured family beliefs. Before I dive into the cultural beliefs that my family has, let me quickly explain my family dynamic. My mother was one of two daughters. My aunt Debra moved to Texas before I was born and to this day I have never met her or anyone in her family.…
The opportunity to travel is a privilege not many people are able to experience. Every summer, I am fortunate enough to visit my relatives in Poland. With each trip, I learn more about Polish culture, history, and traditions. However, amid the attractions and local beauty, Poland greatly differs from North America. Europe’s vast history of artistic, scientific and revolutionary movements strongly influence peoples’ mentality, habits, and morals.…
