The modern day meaning of true came from the Old English word triewe or treowe, which mean to be trustworthy, honest, and reliable. This word goes back even further. Trewaz a Proto-Germanic word meaning having or characterized by good faith. True love is a perfect combination of the words true and love. It is: honest, respectful, committed, faithful, happy, and a true acceptance of each other between two people ("Online Etymology Dictionary," n.d.). Stage one is passion where there is an attraction physically and sexually. In this stage the relationship starts to form. Feelings evolve into somethimg more than “I think he/she is cute.’’ This part of the relationship is where the determination process of is this true love begins (Cherry, n.d.). True love allows a person to become the best version of themselves, not someone completely different. Often times, while in a relationship, an individual will loose sight of their identity and conform to what they believe to be the “ideal” mate for the other person. According to Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott, authors of Real Relationships, “Smart love doesn’t try to change oneself” (127). One of the most important objects to feel secure in is one’s identity, but it is the most crucial thing before entering a relationship.…

These feelings usually lead to relationships and this is what psychologists have been trying to explain; they say that a relationship is characterized by “love, care, commitment and intimacy” and only then it can be classified as consummate love, which means that all of these characteristics are present.
