Have you wondered what life would be like in Verona in the 1500s? In the play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, life is hard, and full of love and hate. The play takes place in Verona Italy, where two families are enemies, feuding all the time for years. They are the Capulets and the Montagues. It starts off by introducing Romeo, as he is in love with Rosaline, but she doesn't love him back. Then he and his good friend Benvolio decide to crash a Capulet party, as they are Montagues. This is where he meets Juliet, from the Capulet side. They quickly fall in love and start their adventure, which would lead to death in the end. Her mother, who is also Lady Capulet, is one that simply doesn’t really care about Juliet until she is dead. She thinks of Juliet as a person to use as a source of power, wealth, and reputation status, as she wants her to marry Paris, the Prince’s kinsman. If this happens, then the Capulets will be closer to the Prince, and they will have an advantage towards the Montagues. Especially in act 1, Scene 3, Lady Capulet argues with the Nurse that Juliet should marry at this age as she is ready, but the Nurse disagrees, as she her own has had experience and thinks it will be brutal to Juliet. She especially says that it had “sucked wisdom from thy teat.” (Shakespeare, 39). Going back to Juliet and her disobedience towards her mother, she shows this throughout the play as she matures and gains her own indepence. This is also especially shown in act 3, scene 5, where her mother tells her that she will have to marry Paris in a couple of days. Showing her disobedience, Juliet talks back and says “Now, by Saint Peter’s Church, and Peter too, He [ Paris ] shall not make me there a joyful bride!” (165), and that she has already found another person that she loves. This example really shows how Juliet is showing her mother that she has a voice and that she is going to use it. Also, Juliet's disobedience towards her mother goes back to the idea that disobedience well lead to tragedy as Juliet ends up dead because …show more content…
Juliet’s disobedience towards her mother, Friar Laurence, and her father has shown that it can lead to tragedy, which was her death. Also, each example showed how Juliet showed her independence as she is still thirteen years old. This play also really showed how despite the neglect Juliet has shown towards her family members, she still managed to get through to a certain point until she had killed herself. Finally, although this play was written in the 1500s, the lessons learned are the priceless as the people of this century are still trying to find out what disobedience towards others can really result

In Conclusion, I think that Romeo is a young, inexperienced and impatient but loyal and brave boy. I think that his naivety plays a huge rule in this because love was taken as an extravagant feeling to have when it was not truly happy as the lovers can experience heartbreak and many other obstacles. It seems as if Romeo only more cautious and deliberate, his devastating ending could have been prevented (even though we have not finished the book yet). Amongst friends especially Mercutio, Romeo shows signs of his social and quick witted persona, even with his fond of verbal jousting that is mainly about sex. Lastly, Romeo is like every other male in the world who only unveils their true self to the people who they trust or who understand them.…
