How love, age, and beauty are intertwined in "When You Are Old" by Yeats
The love feelings in human beings are a unique feeling that translates to several actions by the person experiencing it. However it is intertwined into other aspects of the people such as the age and beauty of the people in love. Age dictates the beauty aspects which in turn is responsible for attraction to the people of opposite gender who are to fall in love with these aspects. Several transitional stages are experience in the life of the lovers as they age and their beauty wanes with age. This is exactly depicted in the poem when you are old by Yeats.

It attracted unwanted people to her who always tried to woo her into love. This made her become confused on who is the best one. However, as the age goes on the good gracious looks fade always. in the first paragraph , the narrator says that “... that Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep” which is an indication that the current old age looks are very different from the tender young and bright looks of the former younger years.
The expression of love changes from time to time and may even become worse as one age away. The feelings of affection and tender care shifts to expressions of frustrations, sorrow and perhaps anger as the love starts fading away. Inline four of the second paragraph the narrator says that the wife was showing sorrow on the former lovely and lively face. The face would also never stay constant as it was changing from time to time.
The closeness and warmth experienced in the early stages of life where the love is very strong also become distant and withdrawn. The lovers become detached from each other and may even wonder what they saw at first. In the first paragraph, the narrator says “….how Love fled, and paced upon the mountains overhead” this is an in diction that the lover were no longer as close as it were when they were
