In the Merriam-Webster dictionary, love is defined as “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person”. Nevertheless, as a universal concept, love does not have a specific set meaning. It is an ambiguous notion, since its definition is open to more than one interpretation. Love is something that means different things to different people. In the twenty-first century, love is becoming an obsolete concept that devours the mind of young women to obey the wishes of reckless men because of the overpowering thought of lust. Still, true love requires acceptance and commitment, respect, honesty, and loyalty. No one is perfect. Therefore, accepting and committing to each other’s mistakes and their past will only make a relationship grow stronger. It is clear that “the quality of the happiness between two people grows in direct proportion to their acceptance, and in inverse proportion to their intolerance and expectations” (Chernoff). Not only does it mean to remain faithful in a boyfriend/girlfriend, boyfriend/boyfriend, girlfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, husband/husband, or wife/wife relationship, it is also a promise to remain by their side no matter the situation. Loving someone means that pain and happiness is shared between each other. Still, more than often, people in today’s modern society tend to forget the meaning and rules of being in a romantic relationship. Their judgement becomes clouded by magazines of celebrities committing adultery and getting away with it without any permanent damage or stain to their relationship.
