The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase happened in 1803. It wasn’t an easy process as some people might have thought. It was an action that caused so much stress to Thomas Jefferson.The agreement for the Purchase was done between Jefferson and Napoleon. So many things happened while the Louisiana Purchase came to play. It caused a great impact on the United States. It was the biggest purchase they could have ever made.The Louisiana Purchase was necessary because the United States had control over the Mississippi River, it allowed farmers to ship their crops ,and the amount of slaves they had increased due to having more land.

One reason why the louisana purchase was necessary was because of the control over the Mississippi River that the united states had.The mississppi river was a principle transportation route.People would use the river to transport goods to southern markets.Since the united states expanded more westward,getting to the mississppi river ans trying to access rhe port of new orleans became alot more difficult to American Trade.This transfer was a big concern.The treaty the made that allowed the United States to use the river to transfer goods had already been resolved.Since this situation was important Jefferson wrtoe to livingston this, and i quote “Spain might have retained New Orleons quietly for years.Her pacific dispositions,her feeble state,would induce her to increase our facilities,there so that her possesion of the place would hardly be felt by us.” In 1762 New Orleaons and Louisiana were transferred to spain.The Lousiana Purchase was really large,it was about 828,000 square miles which later became 15 different states.The Louisiana Purchase from the Mississippi river al the way to the rockey mountains.The southern part of it was new orleans and the gulf of mexico.In the north it was minnesota,north dakota,and montana.They were actually close to canceling the LOusiana Purchase because other leaders thought jefferson was making a huge purchase.Jefferson ended up creating expeditions for people to explore the new land.One famous expedition you might have known was the Lewis …show more content…
But the slaves or better known as the Afrian Americans weren’t to fond about this purchase.Since the lousiana purchase expanded the UNited States that concerned most african americans because eventually the area would become a state and also turn out to be very political.The missouri compromise which began in 1820’s stated the compromise over slavery which later became a failure.Missouri Compromise was used for the lousiaina purchase area.It helped balance out the free and slave states.In 1818 the territoy of Missouri was a slave state but the states that were in the territory would eventually vote.11 states allowed slavery while 11 other states did not.These states were both new and old states.Since it was a balanced vote,the admission of missouri threatened to destroy it.The last failure for slavery was the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854 which helped create the republican
