His biological father broke both of Chances's arms when he was drunk while she was at work. Nancy Ellis did not report any other abuse by the father. Nancy Ellis reported it to the nurse upon Chances admission to the Acute program. The nurse completed an allegation of abuse form and submitted it to me on 2/20/2016.…

The Tissue Issue When it comes to the topic of patient consent on the removal of body tissue, most of us readily agree that consent must be granted before anything is removed from the body. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the question of whether or not the patient is aware the tissue removal is happening. Whereas some are convinced that at times making the patient unaware of the removal is adequate, others maintain that everything happening in a medical procedure should be known or approved by the patient. In early 1951, Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman under went treatment to remove cervical cancer cells.…
In 1997, the Texas legislature enacted a law requiring all public universities in Texas to admit all high school seniors who ranked in the top ten percent of their high school’s graduating class. The University of Texas at Austin, after finding disparities between the racial and ethnic makeup of the university's undergraduate population and the state's population, decided to modify its race-neutral admissions policy. The new policy continued to admit all in-state students who graduated in the top ten percent of their high school classes, however, for the remainder of the in-state freshman class the university would consider race as a factor for admissions into the university. The plaintiff, Abigail Fisher, a white female, applied for undergraduate admission to the University of Texas in 2008.…
Historical Setting In a 1966 amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the federal government began providing financial aid to states that provided education for children with disabilities. The program evolved into the Education of the Handicapped Act (EHA) of 1970. After a couple of lawsuits and an updated Act, the government determined that students with disabilities had the right to public education, and parents had the right to participate in the process (Wright, 2010). Amy Rowley, a first-grader with an auditory impairment, and her family filed suit against her school district in the Federal District Court after the New York Commissioner of Education affirmed the school district’s decision to refuse a sign-language interpreter.…
On September 23rd, 2011, Teresa Lewis, a citizen of Danville, Virginia, was pronounced dead by lethal-injection at approximately 9:13 p.m. (Crawford 74). Being that 46 executions took place in 2010, Teresa Lewis’s case would seem indifferentiable to the others; however, evaluations of Lewis’s mental state incited controversy based on the morality of her case (“The Death Penalty…”). The controversy erupted after Lewis’s defense lawyer filed a position for clemency briefly after disclosing that she had an I.Q. of 72, providing the justification that Lewis “did not possess the intelligence to have planned for the killings” (“US woman Teresa…”). Much to the dismay of her defense lawyers, family, and advocates, Teresa Lewis still underwent lethal injection for conspiring to murder her husband and stepson.…
Polanco broke the “blue code” and said everything in an interview with ABC News, what cost him his job (Graham Kates, 2012). Police officers who come forward and decided not to be part of this “blue code” are the second victims here. As I said before in the Polanco case, when they decide to report the crime or misconduct of their fellow partner, they’ve to say good bye to their careers. Once they report something they start to be reject and bully by their partners, they treat them like…
The criminal justice system often is examined using political, organizational, or sociological approaches [or lenses] (Pollock, 2010). Asking [simply] whether something is legal [or illegal]…is not necessarily the same question as asking whether something is right [or wrong] (Pollock, 2010). The term “ethics” or “ethical” refers to something “being in accordance with the accepted principles of right and wrong that govern the conduct of a profession.” In the case of police officers, use of discretion, or a lack thereof, in the application of force has direct ethical consequences to which the objectivity of the police officer on scene is subjugated by the subjectivity of a review board after the fact. Actors at every stage in the justice process…
In today’s time the biggest trend watching news or articles online that deal with police brutality, and how the police is abusing their power as an officer. Police are here to protect us and making us feel safe, but the things that are going around the news and article are only making things worse by making the people fear the police. Cops should be trained to handle a response better rather than take their anger out or think that they can do anything just because they work for the law. The good thing is that many people are uniting together to fight over police brutality and making a difference to over throw the ones who abuse their power, letting the better cops who knows when to use their power for good or very difficult situations. Police brutality is become a bigger to the people who don’t…
Now matter or not if we agree with how these officers do their jobs these corrupt actions will likely never cease to exist. Regardless, it takes a wolf to catch a…
The readings in this module suggest the municipal police agencies and the RCMP who police Alberta follow different processes with respect to collective bargaining. What bodies represent each police entity at the “bargaining table”? What is the acronyms and full name of each? Well, first we have the Staff Relations Representative (SRR) Program.…
On October thirteenth Jasmine Rand was a guest speaker, along with four Mount Pleasant Police and Central Michigan University campus officers in Plachta Auditorium. Students were given the opportunity to write questions that Rand and the officers would be asked, however, I didn’t participate due to the high volume of questions that had already been obtained. Because Rand was Michael Brown and Trayvon Martins attorney in their civil rights case this presentation was expected to be about these cases that lead to the “Black Lives Matter” movement, race issues, and police brutality which have greatly affected both African American culture and views of police culture. Although, these expectations were exceeded by touching on Rand 's educational…
Did I really deserve to die because of the color of my skin? A current topic of debate in the media today is Racial Profiling. It originally came about many years ago and it has recently re-surfaced. Many of our African-American males have been killed in the eyes of police custody, and their families have been left to bury their loved one. Unfortunately for these families, neither officer that has shot and killed one of these males have been indicted.…
The essay “Our Secret” written by Susan Griffin was taken from a chapter in her book A Chorus of Stones: The Private Life of War. In “Our Secret,” Susan Griffin explains the repercussions of bottling up our emotions and the harm it can have on our mind and body in the long run. In this essay Susan is talking about the life of Heinrich Himmler through his childhood diary, as well as, explaining the controlling behavior of his father throughout his life.…
To begin with, the case I decided to write about is the Eric Garner case which I feel strongly about. This incident took place in Staten Island, New York on July 17th 2014. It all started when the police officers approached Mr. Garner about selling untaxed cigarettes and tried making an arrest. Eric Garner then tried to explain to the law enforcement officers that he hasn’t done anything. As the officer tried to make an arrest with resistance from the victim, he then wrapped his arm around the 43 year old’s neck.…
