Louis Zamperini was born on January 26, 1917 in Olean, NY. He grew up in a small house with his brother, Pete and his sisters Virginia and Sylvia. His mother Louise and Father Anthony worked hard even during the great depression. During the 1936 Olympics Zamperini was only 19 and he was a 4 time Olympic gold champion. Just around this time he was drafted into the U.S air force and was sent to Kahuku air base in Hawaii. At this Air Base he learned to fly B-24 bombers. The name of his plane was the “Green Hornet.”
In May on 1943 Zamperini lifted off from Kahuku in the “Green Hornet” heading towards the Pacific Ocean. A little while into the flight the “Green Hornet” suffered mechanical failures and went down in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
