Louis Long was born March 20, 1976 in Buffalo New York. He attended St.Mary’s School for the Deaf. Sign Language is his first language. He was a leader within the many sports he participated in as the co-captain for his soccer, basketball, and track teams. Long’s first contact with wrestling was with his bothers in the back yard. Louis Long was bullied as a child for being deaf. He said that by his 21st birthday he had 11 bikes stolen from him. Louis was fed up he then took his stand. Having a voice for those who don’t, showing the world the “impossible” for the deaf isn’t so. I believe in this way as well he has impacted the hearing community and changing the reality of not only for deaf wrestlers but all the Deaf people alike. “When hearing people say “you can’t do this or that,” I want to demonstrate I can.” Long states that “Growing up, I always wanted to be a wrestler. I wanted to show the world deaf people could roll up their sleeves and do these kinds of things. My goal is to educate others that deaf people can compete. There’s a huge lineup of people waiting to get into the WWE, but I want to show we can do this.” (Pebbles p.6) Long is what the hearing and deaf community need, someone who is confident enough to speak up and can educated others to preserve the Deaf
