How Did Louis Armstrong Influence Jazz

Louis Armstrong is, no doubt, is the one that popularized jazz more than other jazz musicians at the time. There were many other extraordinary musicians at that time, but Louis Armstrong was the lighthouse. Louis Armstrong grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. Louis Armstrong was poor when he was young, with both of his parents working in the factory struggling to survive. Louis Armstrong had contact with jazz since he was a young kid, received his first cornet when he was twelve. Unfortunately, Louis Armstrong decided to drop out of school to work and pursue jazz. Most people will know who Louis Armstrong was and only jazz enthusiast will know who Bix Beiderbecke was. My idea is that the audience was not ready for the big innovation that Bix Beiderbecke did to jazz, possibly it was a bit too out of the ordinary from the mainstream jazz for the audience. Bix Beiderbecke thought out of the box from the mainstream jazz style by the inspiration from classical music. On the other hand, Louis Armstrong’s way of playing was in the mainstream way of playing jazz. Although Louis Armstrong made many modifications and pushed his creativity, the audience accepted his ideas and different interpretations of jazz because it was not too unorthodox from the mainstream jazz. Louis Armstrong’s improvisations and ideas were still similar to what the audience is familiar with. Bix Beiderbecke, after all, still had influence from ragtime and swing style, but his way of playing may have made a new feeling of jazz that the audience may not like. Another hypothesis that I have is that there were so many different well-known jazz musicians besides Louis Armstrong.
